Hate hate hate that shop. Had a similar experience at the weekend. Made the mistake of saying I'm not a member - don't ever do that; might as well bring a sleeping bag.
Haven't looked into it but can you order online?
EDIT: Ah, there it is...

Consider buying a real coffee machine. Then you can just pop over to Tesco and pick up some coffee beans from a grumpy check-out operator who couldn't care less whether you ever shop there again.
Works for me.

Just go to Denner for them.
My coffee machine uses pods or ground coffee. I love my coffee and always know that I have one or the other in the cupboard, but pods are easier and less messy.

I have a mokka thingy that you put on stop of the stove and since we move to ZH I get Bio Marimbar Espresso coffee from Coop.
If you live in Basel, there is a great shop in Kleinbasel called Moccaraba where they roast their beans on the premises. Tastes a lot better than Nespresso, has less environmental impact and is a damn sight cheaper. Oh, and you often get a free coffee while they are grinding your beans.
Cheers,
Nick

Its the same with Apple.. for the iPad they were offering the services of their 'Geniuses' to help users migrate to the new iPad This caused the already mammoth long queues to move even more slowly.

"Are you a member?"
"No, I don't have a Nespresso machine and I am not interested to buy one. I buy this for a friend."
"Is your friend a member?"
"I guess so."
"Please give me his name!"
"<enter most common family name in German followed by one of the most common first names>"
"Do you have his address?"
"No. I only work with him in Zurich"
"Does he live in the city?"
"How do I know?"
"Could it be one of these five addresses?"
"How do I know? Can I pay now?"
"But I need the address for the warranty!"
"Why can he not only use the receipe for the warranty as everywhere else?"
... add another few minutes...
"I think it is the third one on your list, please let me pay now".

I love their coffee but going there is just tiresome. I did go on a Thursday at 7:30 almost about to close, to get a machine it was pretty empty! Got my coffee, I am already a member (LOL), no thanks on chocolate or coffee, tschuusli I was out of there. Please beware DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT go on a Saturday | | This user would like to thank Angela-74 for this useful post: | |

Well, I like a shopping experience and free coffee and chocolate? Any time! The only downer is that George is never around.

Our Nespresso machine is one of those little units, about as big as a kettle, which we got as a freebie with the purchase of a printer about 2 years ago. Otherwise we would have continued with the Nescafe in a mug type of coffee.
Given that we don't drink that much coffee it doesn't seem to be a drain on our savings buying the capsules (one or two cups at the weekend max).
Oh, and we did go on Saturday but there must have been a lull between stampedes and we were able to walk straight through. When we left (after the "are you a member" interrogation) the shop was bursting at the seams again.

Ugh hate places like that. I pretty much hate shopping in general too, but those places more.
Headphones, a, determined scowl and a quick stare at anyone who tries to get between you and the entrance/product/cashier/exit. Ignore any question at checkout and hold out cash/card until it's accepted.
