Ah. And here we get to the point. It was "painful" for you, because in your opinion "wild" animals should not do this, and therefore it is wrong.

It omits the point that these animals will not necessarily have been treated inhumanely, as it were, and focuses simply on what you think is an insult to these animals, rather than any particular evidence that these animals have been treated badly.
Forcing animals to do acts for our entertainment is mistreatment...

Re: Please help get knie to stop using animals

I think the people who work in circuses often have worse lives than the animals. They should be allowed to roam free in their natural habitat of the (concrete) jungle.

In what way?

Are they scarred? Are they malnourished? Do they pace? Do they flinch when they are approached? Do they attack each other?

Oh. They have anthropomorphicly sad eyes.

Do you avoid wearing wool and leather?

yes when the trainer pointing his stick you can clearly see the reaction of the animals...IF the animals were trained "stick or whipless" why are the trainers still using them?

Non taken, but I'm just quite astonished that everyone on EF is so well informed how the animals are treated on circuses, you're all bloody experts! ...yes

perhaps I am hypocrite, I'm a meat eater and have leather shoes,
I just don't like that animals are used for our entertainment...

And if you ban using animals for circuses, bull-fighting and fur you have come a long way...

I bet you also like the dancing rumanian bears...

Most people have learned not to trust everything they read on an online forum, so we ask for evidence. You cannot provide any evidence to back up your claims.

If you have any evidence besides hearsay, feel free to give it to us, but please bear in mind that Peta is not exactly an impartial source.

Re: Please help get knie to stop using animals

Because investigations of KNIE have found no evidence of mistreatment of animals - quite the contrary. Nobody is disputing that some circuses have mistreated animals, and may continue to do so - but the consensus is based on the evidence that western european circuses treat animals well.

You are arguing, however, that animals as entertainment is fundamentally wrong. Where your argument FAILS is that you back it up by instances of cruelty - some of which are 30 years old...

Most of us here are firmly against animal cruelty, and have respect for people who legally campaign against animal abuse.

I have little respect for people who just moan and wail irrationally, and seem to think anyone who has an opposing view is obviously a baby bunny torturer, and wears freshly clubbed baby seal loafers.

I would have thought that someone who's so passionate about animal welfare would know better than to flog a dead horse.

I suggest you all calm down, rent a copy of Madagascar and you will see. The evidence is at the very least compelling. Entertaining animals CAN survive in the wild. Nuff said.

I'm not a circus fan but I certainly don't believe that ALL circuses mistreat animals.

Training animals to entertain people, if done properly, isn't a form of mistreatment. Many animals blossom when they are given a task to master - dogs need some kind of direction, for example, and whether it is to jump through a hoop dressed in a tutu or sniff out a shipment of drugs as a working animal they fare much better than dogs that are left leaderless and directionless.

To a greater or a lesser extent I am sure this is true of other classic "circus" animals. Parrots also need to be stimulated or they also suffer behavioural problems.

I just have a massive problem watching elephants prance about on an upturned bucket or lions being made to stand on one another's backs, for example.

On the other hand, take me to see a dog obedience competition and I love it because the dogs seem to be more keen and bonkers about the tasks than their owners!

If you went to the police and the courts, would you expect them to prosecute someone based on evidence or on your overwraught emotionalism?

I never said that my emotions was the evidence (sounds incredible stupid),
It just make me sick to see that these animals are not doing well in that environment...yes yes I know it's my observation and my conclusion, I'm not here to change somebody's mind, it's a forum ffs...

I'm not here to earn your respect buddy...
(yes I know, how can I live and flourish without it, my loss I guess)

I'm not doing the flogging..., I'm many things, but not a flogger...

Definition of a forum:
A place where you moan and wail irrationally...

All I said was:
1. I don't like that animals are used for our entertainment
2. I do not believe it's possible to train wild animals with a sugar cube (i.e. stick and whipless)

and yourself said that there will still be animal mistreatment...

just for the record, please send me the link about the investigation that west european circuses are all training animals without beating them...
