Argent....as a newbie my advice would be to just take on board EF opinions. You may not agree with all or some but no need to be insulting to people trying to help you. You never know one day you may need their help.

I never knew the Poles were a race. They're certainly not winning this one.

| | | Re: "Slightly" xenophobic comments from the Swiss people | Quote: | | | | | I cannot understand why most of you, who have been harshly criticizing racism and chauvinism in Switzerland in your previous posts, are pouring your anger at me. | | | | | because ummm, well,
you started of well asking for advice and asking if the comment from a 70 old lady (speaking english I presume which is not her mother tongue - sorry if I am incorrect) asked a xenophobic comment by asking when are you leaving - ok fine!
people responded that maybe she isn't xenophobic but maybe her wording was slightly off and you may have read into the wording a little too much.
If she had asked: would you like to go home one day? do you enjoy living in Switzerland or do you miss your homeland?
to be fair - after 3 years here it's a pretty standard question I get for an ex-pat with no ties to Switzerland apart from a job - which I get asked from all nationalities and ages!
however, as you didn't like the response - you accused certain people of being racist - a little extreme me thinks - and hence a negative reaction!
this is how I have read the thread - which maybe totally different to someone else!

@collilj,
I had a conversation in French and understood my landlady well.

@collilj,
I had a conversation in French and understood my landlady well. | | | | | Again, you asked for it: | Quote: | | | | | Why do you dare to say that my work & life experience is a burden without knowing the details. You sound like a racist | | | | | You accused someone of being racist when they simple pointed out that using stereotypes against Swiss women will get you no where.

UN definition: | Quote: | | | | the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin that has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life. | | | | | The word racism has evolved to the point of refering to other forms of discrimination besides just race, though it started as such.

Do you people also enjoy petting dogs that only try to bite you? What a tedious thread. He/She's miserable and outraged and no one's getting in the way of that.

I get asked quite often if I'm going to go back to the UK and I don't see it as rude. Just see it as people making conversation because as soon as I tell them I came over to stay because my girlfriend is Swiss, they just say,so you're here for good then!
