Sunrise - the theft goes on and on

Again, Sunrise doesnt stop me to disappoint me.

I have a package of 500 meg/month and the only way I have to monitor this limit when it reaches 0 kbytes is to type *133# or to use their iPhone application.

No way they can simply disable the Internet after it reaches 0 kbytes or be so kind to send me an SMS to tell me. Too complicated? or another way to steal me money??

But the real BULLS**T comes now: you have to wait 1 or 2 days before their application is updated with the actual use you have done of your internet quota; there is no real time information of how much Mbytes you use...

The big mafia/monopoly of communications in switzerland is on and on and on...orange/swisscom are no better...i know but nobody complains of this and i am sure in 5 years it will be the same as now...

is there a consumer association / public place where to complain about these bad services?

Re: Sunrire - the theft goes on and on

Do not mean to defend them but I have 500mb and I have never used more than 150mb a month. Also you can see on their website using your account how much you have left. Of course they will not send you an sms. They want this to happen.
I have also seen many people not being aware how much internet certain apps use in an Iphone. So many things need to be monitored. I do agree that it is a tricky way of making money but the client needs to get smart. Unfortunately, sometimes only after getting "burned"

Brilliant. The provider is to blame because you can't or won't track your usage?

Why not upgrade to a bigger package?

Why are you not blaming Apple or Facebook?

Re: Sunrire - the theft goes on and on

yeah. i get 600 minutes free on my phone. why won't the phone provider warn me or cut off my phone when i used them up? waaah.

they only provide you with an app to monitor your usage. and provide a free text service so you can get a status update whenever you feel like? how terrible!

if you really need more than this, there are apps you can download which track exactly how much you use.

As already mentioned, the datausage that the company gives you is not up to date. Sunrise do not have a realtime billing engine for non prepaid customer, that would enable them to keep an exact track of your usage like a prepaid customer. Hence there are delays in getting an accurate update

Yes, they do hope that you go over . It's why in europe this practice is now being regulated as an unfair and deliberately misleading practice. This now involves capping charges, and sending warning SMS when you get near your limit and when you reach it. Some companies now don't charge for overusage but just throttle your connection so that you have slower download speeds.

Look at the latest sunrise Tariffs, and they are less appealing for heavy data users. With a handy, you have to pay 125chf per month to get a flat rate. My original Tariff maps to the new sunrise flat2 & it has gone up 5chf and they have dropped that datausage from 1000mb to 500mb.

I have 500Mb in my data allowance through my employer phone. I manage to manage it on a monthly basis on my own - the data is 15 minute "stale".

It sounds like the OP has had this experience more than once. I have to suggest it might happen to me once but then I'd take things into my own hands.

If 500Mb is not enough, Orange Me your solution.

Re: Sunrire - the theft goes on and on

As others have suggested, your expectations here are unrealistic. Phone companies want you to use their higher rate services, credit card companies want you to carry as high a balance as possible and pay them interest, businesses want to make as much money out of their customers as they can. You can throw terms like "mafia" around as much you want, it's not going to change.

You don't have a data "limit" on your plan - you have a certain amount of data use which will be charged at a certain amount. A higher data usage than that will be charged at a higher amount. Is it fair? Debatable, as is the question of how much warning they could give you when you get close to the crossover point.

However you know the deal going in, and your iPhone tracks your data usage itself so it's simple to monitor it. The rest is up to you.

Re: Sunrire - the theft goes on and on

My partner has an iPhone on contract in the UK. Cleverly, once he's reached his monthly limit (rare, only when using Viber or something like that regularly) his bandwidth is capped and hence all data usage is very slow. He is never charged extra.

Sunrise don't do that because (a) this is Switzerland where value for money rules don't apply and (b) there's not enough competition for the non-Swiss like us to be able to do anything about it.

So instead you need to either get a free app to monitor your data usage or use the iPhone's built-in status to check regularly how much data you've downloaded.

Re: Sunrire - the theft goes on and on

If i/you use more or less than 500 meg its a personal choice, so not to be discussed here.

the point is that, in most civilized countries - where cuustomer satisfaction has some value - it would take not much time to give the customer the opportunity to cap to 500 meg (or whatever is the limit) or/and to send a SMS to warn people of excess use. forget it with sunrise and probably the other 2 mafia telecom companies..

also, what i am shocked here is that they fool you with their application and with the service *133* telling you information not updated (usually 1 or 3 days before). thats absolutely ridicolous and misleading and denotes their will to fool you.

ok i could check the iphone data counters, but i need to reset it every month and its not cumbersome...ahh.. ok i will need to write an application myself on the iphone...

jokes apart... i can only damm sunrise and hope they will go bankrumpt one day...

no words on public/consumer associations in CH?... are there any, do they count anything? ahh...please dont mention comparis!!!!

Working for a company where Facebook and personal email is off the network.
I consume at least 20 MB on work days,
And then depends on what I do in the weekends.
So, to cut it short, I am going for the new Orange Me with 3 GB. So far they only offered 1GB and I was not feeling secure enough to actually get that plan.
