Thank you!! I have an appointment with ASLOCA in June and hope that I can find a solution. In the mean time we´re looking for a new place.

Re: Noise after midnight... what should I do?

Yes, I´m wearing earplugs every night... It helps, but when the noises are too loud, especially the low frequenzy ones, one stills hears them.

Re: Noise after midnight... what should I do?

There are some apartment blocks in Zürich that forbid showering after a certain time at night!!! What a stink!
Above us the tenant has a "rowing" fitness machine which he started using at 10 pm-it makes alot of noises. We told him that its disturbing and he stopped doing it at night. His wife was so embarrassed about the whole thing that she made us a loaf of fresh bread!

I don't know what you are expecting and why you are wasting your energy. You sound like someone who moves next to the airport and then complains about the airplane noise....

Doesn't appear to be complaining about the noise in general, just having the noise go on well after midnight - like operation restrictions on airports, so the airport noise doesn't go 24 hours a day, really.

I really don´t know what to do... Do I have a right to ask for quietness after midnight even if I live above a pizza shop?

HELP!
Hello!
Great news!
I have managed to get you a practical solution to your noise issue.
As you mentioned before, it's due mostly to door banging (by the cleaning staff).

I have for you a set of 8 items:
4 of those:

4 of those:
.

I am sure you can give them to the pizzeria staff and ask them kindly to put them.

They are all yours for only 10chf total, quick delivery included!. I will come with my bike, so preferably in the city center.

Let me know, I can even come after work today.

Re: Noise after midnight... what should I do?

They're great! They make no difference at all to the sound of doors banging shut, but they're great fun to kick (thwaaaannnnnnnnnggggggg).

The spring actually do reduce the noise, as it slow down the door, and it does not "hit" the wall quickly.

As for the "under the door" thing, yes, its not reducing the noise but it blocks the door open, so it actually never closes violently, never banging the door...

Anyway, with 10chf total, delivered quickly, what can be wrong?

She is so desperate that she can give it a try, no?

Look a review:

http://www.wickes.co.uk/spring-door-stop/invt/159599/

"Very easy to fit - looks great - does the job - but most importantly, much, much cheaper than any other similar item from other DIY suppliers."
Expertise:Expert DIYer

(£4.49 for 2 items= 6.74CHF + delivery and import duties).

it's also a great toy for DOGS!!

Hi,

Just to give you a hint about your Asloca meeting - did you make it very clear to them what you want to get out of the meeting?

I'm asking because I had a very disappointing experience with Asloca - I arranged a meeting to (I thought) write a letter asking for a rent reduction. The advisor I saw spent a long time 'checking' I was entitled to a rent reduction (I'd already been told I was at a previous appointment), and then when I asked for a form letter told me he didn't have one.

Several people on here suggested part of the problem might have been that I didn't make it clear enough when I called to set up the meeting what exactly I was expecting to achieve.

So it might be worthwhile thinking about what you want to get out of it and either ringing Asloca up to tell them, or writing it down and taking it with you to the meeting - so that you don't end up feeling frustrated and disappointed at their 'unhelpfulness'.

Hope that helps!

Re: Noise after midnight... what should I do?

If someone was threatening to sue me I probably wouldn't start buying stuff for them.

I would try to talk to the cleaning lady. Just go down when you start hearing the noise, knock on the door and explain the situation (assuming she speaks at least German). Unless you are worried that this might be seen as more "harassment"...

Failing that, go with the aforementioned legal advice and insurance. Although if it goes that way it will be cheaper and less stressful to find another flat.

More likely to be French given the OP's location.

They tried the communication way. It did not worked at all.
It's not "buying stuff for them", but buying herself a practical solution.
And we only talking about 10chf total, quick delivery included (door to door by myself on a bicycle)...

Finding another flat in Lausanne means spending a lot of time. In the meantime the situation is very hard for the OP, so why not investing/ trying a cheap solution, as proposed?

Re: Noise after midnight... what should I do?

How is this a solution?

Generally, the problem is doors slamming SHUT, not OPEN!

??
1)If the doors are always open (thanks to the "under door thing") they will never be "shut"--> no slamming--> no noise.

2)If the doors are slammed to be shut and hit the spring, they will hit the wall (door frame) less violently --> less slamming --> less noise.

What is so complicated to understand???

Anyway, the "door stopper spring" is also cool to entertain the dogs.... buy it, you know you want too!

You mean door wedges? Fire regulations prohibit fire-retention doors from being wedged open.

I also think the airport analogy is a little unfair, I'm sure the OP could expect the ususal hubub from a restaurant, but not a loud cleaning lady till 2 in the morning. Can I also add that the cleaning lady is probably ripping the restaurant off, does it really take 4 hours to clean an average-sized pizzeria?

Regulations...the owner would not even know about it, as the "door stuffs" will be given to the staff. The owner wants to sue the OP already, I guess it's time to bypass that person and solve the noise issue...
