Their cups?

TV campaign in the middle of a major TV broadcast event.
Not seen it. I think I first heard of Starbucks from word of mouth and their ubiquity.

And I probably started frequenting them when I was in Singapore, as a haven from heat and the outside world - they were cool, comfortable and comforting. And I liked their drinks.

I am not making any (ill informed) judgements about Starbucks - its perfectly healthy within the right diet. You blame the product rather than the individual eating the product. Whatever happened to one's self control?
Instead of your smart-alec answers trying to pick holes in what I say - on this thread and others without ever actually adding anything to the argument, perhaps you'd be able to take the time (of which you seem to have plenty) to explain what you think has caused the obesity epidemic in the western world?

Central heating.

I'm not kidding. I've lost three kilos since we moved into a house with a typical temperature of 13 degrees.

More people live in centrally heated houses than go to Starbucks. Most people I see in Starbucks are not obese. Therefore it must be the central heating.

you prove nothing except your own lack of comprehension skills.

most people I see in Starbucks aren't obese (you can even get a skinny latte!), blaming Starbucks for the world's obesity problems is ludicrous

to fight the "obesity epidemic in the western world", would you ban Starbucks from serving full fat lattes?

Why do you keep asking me questions? I'm not Wikipedia.

And you still haven't the decency to answer my question:

Perhaps you'd be able to take the time to explain what you think has caused the obesity epidemic in the western world.

Re: Starbucks Coffee

Did anyone watch the excellent and fascinating documentary on BBC 1 last night, with the 2 young doctor brothers? They looked at a diet laden with fat, and one laden with sugar- and that was fairly bad news. But the disaster was the average 50/50 mixture of sugar COMBINED with fat which seems to the the base of too much modern diet.

Even if you are saying this in jest you are correct! There was an article on Aynty Beeb earlier this week saying the same thing.

it is not just a western world issue.

I don't know the answer but I sure won't be blaming Starbucks! Maybe obesity in the west is due to people: eating too much, lack of exercise, too much sugar in diets, increasingly sedentary lifestyles?

I wish I was, but no: we're bloody cold all the time and weight loss has been a direct consequence.

I'd imagine the lugging of firewood up several flights of stairs might be contributing, too, but put together it all makes sense: hot, sedentary well-fed people get fat; cold, active, well-fed people probably don't.

Finally I can forget about that sports programme I never fancied starting...!

Is that it?

So basically you've no idea because you've just written such a load of tosh that you seem to have gleaned from Hello magazine or Woman's World or day-time TV thing like that.

Perhaps you were write to just pick holes in my argument without adding anything to the debate.

what's wrong with Hello magazine or Woman's World? have you got something against women?

you sure aren't very well read judging by your comments (to call what you're saying "an argument" is laughable)

I said I don't know the reasons for obesity in the west, no one really knows the full answer. you seem to think you can reduce it down to blaming fast food and starbucks which is one dimensional and wrong

It's not the whole problem- but it is a big part of it.

You need to exercise for 40 minutes to an hour to burn off the calories in a Frappe drink.

That's "extra" exercise on what you already take.

If you don't then those extra 500 calories are another 25% of the calories you need in a day assuming you need 2000.
Have one three or four times a week for a few months and you'll be putting on weight.
If, however, you had an espresso instead, it would make no difference.

They're both coffees but they're not the same thing.

thanks but you do realize that Starbucks sell skinny drinks as well. A tall skinny capuccino is 70 calories. most of their full fat tall drinks are roughly 200-250 calories. Only a handful of drinks hit anywhere near the 500 calorie mark and they were venti size
