Re: Starbucks Coffee

The Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee? Is it any good? I've been tempted to try it but at CHFmegabucks per bag of beans I'm as bit nervous about forking out for it.

you're talking nonsense. I have an espresso machine and burr grinder. Espresso coffee is just one type of coffee. Coffee comes from Ethiopia not Italy and espresso produces a thick, rich type of coffee that I personally enjoy, but it certainly isn't the most refined sort. In fact, if you're working with something like Kope Luwak or Jamaica Blue Mountain which are lighter coffees, there are those that would scoff at the harsh treatment it gets in an espresso machine and would only put it through an aeropress or similar.

I've only ever had it made for me at Cafes never bought a bag. Yeah, it's very smooth and complex if made correctly. I'd try a sample first because it isn't kablam espresso blast coffee to wake you up in the morning.

Re: Starbucks Coffee

Mmm I'm intrigued now. I drink a lot of complex coffee's, I'm more about the taste than the kablam. Do you know somewhere in Zug or Zurich that serves it?

You can buy it here http://www.schwarzenbach.ch/g3.cms/s.../s_level/11430

but I've not seen it served in Switzerland.

even though its named "coffee" I wouldnt put it in the same drawer here. its more like black gold ?

but you might agree that offering American coffee to a Swiss, French, Turk, Italian, Arab, Greek,

is a sacrilege.
I want to make sure I did not misunderstand you. When you write "American coffee," I assume you mean the roasting and or brewing process, correct?

For the record, the physical coffee beans themselves are a globally traded commodity and are all sourced from basically the same places. That means Lavazza, Starbucks, jimmy joe Jim bobs local garage coffee perhaps all came from the same physical coffee plantation.

Re: Starbucks Coffee

The beans may come from the same plantations in a lot of cases but the way they are roasted makes a huge difference to the final taste.

More bullshit on this thread. A lot of coffee is commodified but there more and more single estate stuff on the market - like wine or scotch and now like chocolate too.

Oh come on, Australia is a stereotype. Starbucks makes good coffee but it caters for the lardy whipped cream shit people like, especially the morbidly obese Australians.

Go into Starbucks and order a ristretto bianco - better than an Australian flat white.

That article is also complete nonsense. All the Scandinavian countries (low Starbucks/million), Switzerland (high starbucks per million) and Canada (highest Starbucks per million) have the highest coffee consumption per capita but UK, USA and Ireland have relatively low coffee consumption but high Starbucks concentrations. Is there a correlation? I feel it's because the urbane and sophisticated Australians won't order a flat white in the same room as a frappucino. Or maybe it's because they're all shovelling food down their holes in McDonalds
