Oh I have been asking myself that very question. Thank you for bringing this up. And all those years I thought I was not normal, not having any "baby on board" or similar stickers on my car - wait a minute - I can't even transport my kids in my car with only two seats, one has to run along all the time.
Whereass the "ass family" sticker is sort of cool (pun intended)

Isn't it a little creepy that you go around taking pictures of them
I'm with you 100% though. It's like when i was a kid and i wanted a necklace with my name on it and my mum wouldn't let me. I was gutted until she explained how bad people might use the information to kidnap me | | The following 6 users would like to thank mimi1981 for this useful post:

It's the first time I see stickers like this! Is it in Switzerland?
I find it rather cute :ashamed: this being said, I don't have any 'baby on board' sticker, as I don't see the point of those.

Rather than 'baby on board' I thought these should say 'sleep deprived parent driving' I mean, it's not like I was thinking of ramming that car but now I know there is a baby in it I wont, but it might be good to know that the person driving might not be firing on all cylinders. Honestly, the number of beeps I got when I was sitting at green lights......
Anyway people never take down the 'bob' signs when the baby is NOT on board so it's not like it actually helps in an emergency.
As for putting kids names out in the open, it's stupid, but I don't hate them.

I was just talking about this with my Swiss husband few weeks ago! He wanted to have have one of this on the car when our baby is born.. But I told him that I do not want stranger to know the name of our child!
Finally we compromised and we bought this really cute design of a car to hang at the back window of the car, just saying Baby on Board.. I think that is normal..
Doesn't the people here know kidnapping starts when the strangers knows the name of the child???? |

"C'mon Max and Lara ....... I've got some lovely sweeties in my car, and then we can drive to go to see my gorgeous puppies" [I often thought that the Swiss had an identity problem] | | The following 2 users would like to thank TiMow for this useful post:

They also like to put up a sign in front of their house to let all baby snatchers know that a new baby is now resident.
Or perhaps it is to warn the neighbours that loud noises and smelly bin bags are imminent.

Baby on board could encourage other drivers to take more care but the name one are just totally unnecessary.
And when you see some of the names they call their kids it's even worse. I'd be ashamed to have some of them on my car.
OH once brought a T shirt back from a business trip to the states with our son's name on it totally oblivious to the posssible child abduction issues. It was really cute but I only let him wear it around the house/garden or when visiting friends. Maybe I'm paranoid but didn't want to take any risks. (and we were living in Belgium at the time of the Mark Dutroux trial so were surrounded by media coverage of child abductions )

Look at the bright side: There is also a lot of entertainment in these - when you read all the ridiculously stupid names parents give their children.....

My daughter is at a very cute age (just under 3 - won't last long :-) ) and will go to anyone. Strangers seemed to think it was normal to pick her up in Dubai and cuddle her! She isn't even the slightest bit scared of strangers, so she never got out of my sight on our recent month long holiday. Someone knowing your child's name and calling them away would be one step closer to your child.

I remember a Ben Elton rant many years ago about "Baby on board" stickers. Basically saying it was for guys to boast about the fact they were fertiile stud monkeys, or words to that effect.
Have to say I agree with him. Doesn't make me drive any differently to be honest. If people really are that concerned about their little darlings, they shouldn't have them in the car in the first place. And why does it only apply to cars behind? Why not have it emblazoned all over the front and sides as well? Hell, let's have bells, whistles and a loudspeaker too.
