Steg Computer AG delivers defective item and won't honor warranty

Hello,

What shall I do here? I bought an expensive ASUS computer part from Steg Computer and it came DOA. I went to Steg Computer Dietikon to have them RMA it and they said I damaged the part and that it is my fault.

I made the mistake to pay cash via Postfinance otherwise my CC provider would have helped me out of this.

How can I force them to refund me the money or give me a new item? is there a customer institution to help customers out of this kind of standardized Swiss shops rip off? even ebay sellers thousand kilometers away do business more decently than all these stupid scam Swiss shops.

TIA,
Best regards,
TapiroLee

Re: Steg Computer AG delivers defective item and won't honor warranty

On the few occasions I have had warranty problems with products purchased from Steg, they have always done right, even when I send my wife in my stead (HD that died after a few weeks last time).

Perhaps it's your local guys, I don't know, but the guys here are top notch!

It is a new ASUS Motherboard. It has one bent pin in the middle of the CPU socket, this is super tiny less than one millimeter and all other pins are perfect. Needless to say, if you really damage it by mistake you bent a whole bunch of pins and not one in isolation besides there is only one way to fit the LGA2011 CPU in there so no chance to "make mistakes".

Re: Steg Computer AG delivers defective item and won't honor warranty

I'd contact their HQ as well. I've been dealing with Steg for years and have always admired their service/never any issues. Looks like you were dealing with some asshole.

I agree it is very odd that only one pin was bent (can happen though if the cpu slips by applying too much pressure).

However, should worse come to worse (although i doubt it) - there are plenty of resources on the net for fixing them. In your case only one - which shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks man! I know I had the dilemma when I saw the bent pin whether to fix it myself, but then if it breaks I can't RMA it anymore and this is a 400chf motherboard so ... better not to take chances. The LGA 2011 socket that this system has tightens the CPU and secures it before you mount the CPU Cooler so is kind of hard to imagine how the CPU can slip and break one pin ... but could be.

I already contacted their HQ via email but no response so far.

What really annoys me is that the Swiss shops don't "buffer" the problems with defective products you might encounter, they rather make you wait and delegate the problems to the company in this case ASUS ... so really they don't do anything except happily take your money and that's it.

Hi Tapiro
The above statements are very very strong and offensive to many people here.

What you have encountered is very unpleasant and surely can make you (anyone) angry. We all know the drill.

However it can happen in any country and with any nationality.

Steg PC is a well-known and quite respected online shop in Switzerland.
Therefore I'd propose you don't say "swiss" shop. You can say it is an electronic store or bad employee there who made you see red.

Hope this helps.

PS: Why I tell you this? Because I don't want you to suffer like me, others will start to troll you.

Re: Steg Computer AG delivers defective item and won't honor warranty

I have a Steg computer and after about 12 months the hard-disk died. They supplied a new one under warranty without any problems and installed the original software as on the original. I was very satisfied with their service.

UPDATE: Steg somehow found out about this online post and contacted me by phone. The person calling said they are going to try to fix the situation as soon as possible. So I'm really looking forward to a happy end to this.

Dear TapiroLee and dear Users,

I’m writing on behalf of STEG computer & electronics. Thank you very much for your post and your update, thanks for all replies, too.

This morning, I was able to call you in order to apologize for one of our employees. That specific employee obviously had a bad day and already gave you an answer before checking the mainboard completely. Our RMA process is in progress, we’ll be receiving the mainboard at our HQ in Lucerne-Littau in order to analyze it carefully. After checking the board, we will contact you as soon you as possible to provide you with further information.

Thank you very much for your comprehension. After our phonecall, I sent you my contact details by E-Mail. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at any time.

Re: Steg Computer AG delivers defective item and won't honor warranty

Nice end to that issue and well done Steg for catching it (now everyone delete your facebook accounts lol).

As I already mentioned - never had issues with Steg and if you think their online service is good - then you should take a trip to one of their stores. I personally venture down to Abtwil (SG) every now and again - 30 - 40 min drive. Nice staff, friendly, polite... all round good quality customer service. I personally get all my stuff from them and even for the office where I work - build my gaming rig with Steg supplied products (even returned a buggy dvd player once - brand new, but had playback issues). So I brought it back to them, explained the issue... 10 mins later plus 20 sfr I think, I walked out with an better model (cost a bit more than the one I had already purchased) --> Happy customer.

I just reckon you just got a 'neu defekt' product. N1 Steg - still laughing to myself that Erwin caught your thread

I have only ever had positive experiences with Steg too, until now. Maybe you can try buying a defective Motherboard like the one I got and see what it is like.

I bought this motherboard on the 14 of May, found the issues and sent a RMA (via email) request on the 16 of May. No answer from them until the 05 June. As per their request I brought the Motherboard to Dietikon on the 07 June where that technician who had a bad day told me what he told me and have been waiting ever since. A one-month (and counting) RMA is not really great, is it?

There are a few reasons why I "used to" prefer buying from online stores in Switzerland such as Steg, the most important one being local Warranty. In view of the latest events, and going through all this one month waiting without working Motherboard nor money back, next time I will most likely buy from the US or ebay, cheaper and likely a Warranty system that can't get worse than the one you get here locally in Switzerland.

Anyhow, I really hope Steg takes this chance to learn and improve from it.

PS: ignore these "groaners" Papa_Goose and family which are just a bunch of ignorant forum Trollers, they do forum Trolling for a living and know nothing about computer building, nor motherboards and most likely have never bought this kind of items online in stores like Steg, Microspot and Digitec. I have.

so you had a bad deal at the start from 1 of the employees, steg found it and came on here to give feedback, you will get another board i am sure so in that respect, steg does give good service, i have taken some things back and NEVER had a problem.

Maybe it was your attitude and the guy didnt like it?

dont always assume or think you are so great or know about people either.

i do have to ask if you are so experienced at the very easy task of clipping a few comonents together why you should know things go wrong and should have inspected the board when you are still in the shop?

It also clear that you are a child.... if someone groans at you , you go through all their previous posts and give them a groan in return, as you have done to me today.

ps ill let you in on a small secret... its the internet and doesnt efect anything, unles you are concerned by an "online persona"

I guess I'm not in that group then, as I've been designing and building computers since before motherboards existed!
