Yes, indeed. Thank you ever so much, krash - I have seen the error of my ways and now clearly understand that were it not for the guidance of your rich and informative (not to mention wise posts), the poor lost souls of the forum would surely stray with alarming speed from the shining path of righteousness and descent quickly to the dark, murky, cold depths of a world in which there is no ice cream, no fluffy bunnies, no happiness; and worst of all - no Krash.

.....So kindly piss off, we're busy descending here.

The NHL would be the best bet

Yeah, but as you haven't contributed anything to the world's success since scoring 4 (questionable goal included) in 1966's soccer game, you have rescinded the right to be considered the "home nation".

Now, back to the hardened shoplifting types and people with pro-/anti tanned skin arguments.
I remember this ,it was NO Goal

Re: accused of shoplifting, but not really?

Unless a salesperson tells you directly or implies that you are a shoplifter, I do not think that anyone is to be accused here.

You do not know if she really was accusing you of shoplifting or just angry that you are carrying one of her products in hand.

To be honest, I would be worried that you would somehow drop it, damage it or break it especially when it is something sensitive to such like a necklace. It is best to look at it at its place and tell the salesperson if you want to buy it, so that she can transfer it to the check out person.

What if it was hand made? What if she made it herself? What if it was a vase, or something more sensitive made of glass? I would not risk it as a salesperson.

I wish she could have expressed her concern more verbally though.

i wonder if you purposely misunderstand my statement. i am by no means saying that i hate any of those aforementioned nationalities. in fact, i find it awful that people treat me different after they find out that i am not one of those nationalities. in my opinion, stores should treat all customers as if they customers, and not give a different rate of service depending on the color of the skin, hair, or eyes.
it couldnot have been very clear to all what "love" would mean ..

so, i would greatly appreciate some feedback on this situation (as it has never happened to me before, in any country i've ever lived in...) today, i was looking in a jewelry boutique. i found a necklace i liked, and i put it in my hand. the little girl i take care of was looking at other things (earrings, she just got her first pair and she is a proud little duck) and a store clerk followed me (discreetly, at first) to where she was standing (maybe 3 meters away). we looked for a little bit, and the woman followed me around. i was kind of shocked, but didn't know what to do. the little girl was really into looking around though, and as i had some money to get her a present, i didn't just want to leave. well then, the sales lady told me in awful swiss german (i understand the dialect here, but have no idea what hers was...) basically that i needed to hand her back the necklace that was in my hand. i was so shocked i spoke to her in english, that i wanted to buy the necklace. she then put out her hand, and was literally like "hand it over." i was flabbergasted. i shook my head at her, and walked away to the cash register, where another clerk checked me out. the awful sales clerk stood by the whole time shaking her head at me, and my cute little duck. i wish i could complain to a manager, but i don't think it'd be a good use of my time. i am just so shocked by the whole thing, and kind of traumatized, but at least i have a cute necklace.
I have no idea if the sales person was being judgemental toward you as I wasn't there but I do know that I would have handed back the item and said danke vielmal before walking off. Possibly they had had alot of things stolen of recent, once again all speculation. Retail is suffering everywhere lately it seems. What was the necklace of anyway?

yeah breezy, i unfortunately did. in retrospect, i probably shouldn't have. and in the future, i won't be frequenting that shop for my jewelry needs.
i would have taken it back after I reflected on it. There is almost nothing worse than having someone eye you down while you just want to browse and shop. Especially if you are not ready to buy, but more to just look.

Hurry. There are only a few shopping days left to profit from the 2015 rates.

Re: accused of shoplifting, but not really?

Let me start by saying that I can understand why the OP would feel aggrieved and I am in no way insinuating that the OP may have been shoplifting.

But I have some sympathy with the store...it is a classical shoplifting ploy to go into a store with a child who is very interested in a lot of things and touches everything. Sales/security personnel tend to focus on them and the adult uses this as a diversionary tactic. And promptly pockets stuff.... I can imagine that the shop assistant was a bit on edge, trying to keep an eye on what was going on.

There is no doubt that it was handled with a complete lack of sensitivity. A better option might have been for the shop assistant to ask the OP whether she wanted her to take the necklace off her hands and put it at the cash desk until she was ready to pay.

Re: accused of shoplifting, but not really?

I think they will give you a big fine to make it absolutely not worth it, suspended for 2 years if first time offender. So yeah, not worth it. In switzerland they don't jail much but the fines are really tough.

Hefty fine? Aware of the slabs? And suspension from working in Switzerland?

Re: accused of shoplifting, but not really?

Am I the only one who finds it odd to be asking about fines/punishment etc for shoplifting?
Either *he's planning to go out on a massive shoplifting spree between now and the end of the year or *he's been caught and is worried about the consequences.

* or she

Re: accused of shoplifting, but not really?

not really, but someone very close got caught yesterday, he quite broke down today and am finding way to save him.

I do not want to reveal his/her identity as he/she wanted to keep it undisclosed. It's shamefull but want to know exactly the consequences as most of the rules are in German language.

the best thing you can do for him now is to make it very clear that he should never pick up the soap.
