| | | People driving around honking their horn after Euro Cup wins
I am not sure if this is just a common thing everywhere or what but here in our little town, every time Italy or Spain wins a game there are morons driving around at all hours of the night honking their damn horns. Why?? It's obnoxious and seems really out of character in a country where people are otherwise usually pretty anal about not being loud after it gets dark.

Some people here on this forum have integrated pretty well. They are even more Swiss than the Swiss.

Oh, get over yourself for gods sake.
Its the sound of people feeling happy. In a week's time you can go back to being miserable in silence again for another 2 years.

But luckily there's nothing between the end of the Euro 2012 and the world cup 2014 thing...
So a few more days to cope.

A little life in this country obsessed with noise regulations...

Psssstttt!
It's not the world cup.
But I agree with you.
A bunch of overpaid, leaden footed, unfit pansies being idolised by a sycophantic audience. | Quote: | | | | | I'll just be glad when the whole world cup thing is over... | | | | | | | This user would like to thank ratbag for this useful post: | |

We agreed that it was the "excessive aspect" and duration that was mostly annoying.
We also discussed on how they were different opinion on "celebrating". Quite a few people were not agreeing that this honking is a display of celebration.
Finally we also talked about how it was perceived as a lack of respect for other people (in particular people who have to work the day after and people who don't care about football).
All that mixed with groans, negative comments and fights
Is that a good summary of the other topic?

While I understand the immediate post-game elation, and will deal with a little honking and screaming for an hour or so afterward, I had a major issue with the car of howling douchenozzles who slowly trolled down my street honking vigorously, yelling and chanting...
After 2am. I don't know exactly when, but I do know I managed to get to sleep just before 2 and these twits woke me up.
There's a line between friendly celebration and 100% pure, denatured twatwafflery, and I think that methodically trying to wake up a sleeping neighborhood (probably while drunk-driving) crosses it.

I was asked by a visitor, once:
-"If it's like this when another team wins, what must it be like when the Swiss National Team wins?"
To which I replied:
-"I don't know .... I've only been here 12 years."

I know I'll be seen as a miserable bast^% for this but I grew tired of the same old cars driving round with folk hanging out the windows screaming and waving flags and beeping incessantly well after midnight on a Sunday night, especially when kids manning the closed off streets of our place woke us up at 6.20 on Sunday morning by them playing at being polizei with walkie-talkies set on 'stun'.
Going back to last night's football -this was NOT even the final. I wouldn't have minded it so much for 10 minutes but it eventually became all one flew over the cuckoos nest in its derangement.
And this bit of Switzerland is far and away the NOISIEST place I've ever lived - I've lived places where live gunfire and car bombs have occasionally woken me up but not with the regularity that some crazy driver, 'special' event or whatever has here.
