| | | Milk - whats the deal?
I know swizerland has cows coz i've seen them in fields.
So why can I never find blooming milk in the supermarket. No full fat or semi (damn I'd even settle for that watery stuff vegetarians drink).
Just that shocking UHT milk type drink that along with cockroaches would be the only surviving thing after a nuclear war.

The cows in Switzerland are purely for decoration and tourist purposes. They are not for milking. | | This user would like to thank WorldTraveller for this useful post: | |

you can try any "bio" in Migros for example...
i can guarantee that after you open it it resists maximum 48 hours and than is spoiled...so is not sterilized or UHT or whatever... |

Milk Sucks | Quote: | | | | Dairy products are a health hazard. They contain no fibre or complex carbohydrates and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol. Oxygen's a radical species. It'll kill you in the end. I'd make the most of while i'm still alive.
Saying about milk, I found that the full fat stuff here makes me feel a bit sick after a few mouthfuls. I can just about cope with the 'drink' (or semi-skimmed, if you prefer), but it's too rich for me. Not a complaint about the milk, just that I'm not hard enough for it. My daughter absolutely loves the stuff, though and seemed somewhat disappointed with the milk back home.

Incidentally, I too enjoy good meat, cheese, milk etc. even though these may not be good for me.

The stuff that you get ab hof is pretty good too. Our girl won't drink milk but gulps that stuff down. She believes that the spout is attached to a cow's udder! |

Is there any way of getting skimmed/ 0% milk - and not the UHT stuff? we get the semi-skimmed M Drink stuff but can't find any fully skimmed anywhere apart from the UHT.

and for those who suffer from coeliac disease, the stores also offer a gluten free range for food and drink stuff.
Here's an ,albeit, german list of someone who suffers from Lactose Intolerance and has listed the products that are safe to consumate from Migros,it says on top of the listing, the things marked with a * could still cause problems with people who are suffering from a heavy allergie to lactose.
This is a list of all Migros shops swisswide who carry the gluten and/or lactose free products http://www.migros.ch/DE/Kundendienst...ents/liste.pdf

At the Coop look for: Coop Free From Drink Milk lactosefrei UHT and at the Migros it is just called Lactosefrei Milch.
If you follow the link below you can get a list of all the gluten and lactose free products sold by the Coop. Hope it helps. http://ernaehrung.coop.ch/tipps/list...EN&language=de |

The Bio milk here is really good and if you keep it refrigerated, it won't go off that fast either. It's also widely available, even the tiny Coop at the end of my street stocks it. It is not necessary to drink UHT. Full fat is Vollmilch here and Drinkmilch is fat reduced.
If anything, Switzerland does have good milk products, so I can't imagine where you have been doing your shopping. |

I wouldn't recommend the Free From milk from coop (it tastes like soy milk ), their Weightwatchers Lactose Free Milk is much better!

Surely everyone keeps their milk in the fridge?? I was surprised too at the lack of choice here compared with the UK - only one brand of Bio (which aoppears to be a relatively new product here) and not much of it either. Most Swiss seem to prefer UHT for unknown reasons - it's the same in France, where the rows of UHT predominate.
