How about sticking a temporary note on the box-

"Whoever is emptying the letterbox should stop doing it as it's none of your business. This is my precious PRIVATE letterbox! Play with your own letterbox."

I am sure someone here will provide a nice German translation.
Do you have any mode between inaction and overreaction?

I would be a bit miffed if someone was going through my post box. We have one the same as yours and I tend to leave the free papers in it until I have a pile big enough to tie with string for the newspaper collection. Completly off topic, but can you put something on your box rejecting the free newspapers. I actually saw the boy who was putting them in yesterday. I asked him if I could stop having it, bless him, he said I would never know what was going on if I didn't get one. I pointed out that I never even take them out of the box so I don't know anyway. He looked sympathetically at me as he walked awayI was pitied by a 12 year old

Nothing easier than that, go to your local Migros,Jumbo or Coop DYI sections and you'll find stickers saying KEINE WERBUNG BITTE or WERBUNG NEIN DANKE ( no flyers etc), you stick this then onto your letterbox and apart from the ANZEIGER which has to be distributed mandatorily to every letterbox, you should only get the adressed mail after that

Doesn't seem to stop the pizza / house cleaning / tarot reading adverts or cards advertising the "special services" of scantily clad ladies.

I tried using the sticker based spam filter but in my area it doesn't help. The drones who distribute the ads just throw it in anyway and I'm not around when it happens so I can't even chase them off.

Got a sticker, it doesn't make any difference (at least we don't get flyers advertising the ladies of the night)

Everyone in my building has these stickers, it doesn't stop all the junk though. I often think we should just have a paper recycling box right next to the letter boxes, and stick that crap straight in.

Sense of humour is lost on some of you? What inaction and over reaction are you referring to?

Do some of you regulars have any other mode apart from backing each other like a pack of wolves every time someone new voices an opinion? Are some of you re-living your kindergarten days? Continue as my thick skin can easily handle it.

When I moved to a new spot in 2000, I was surprised to see how much junk mail I was getting. The thing was, I had moved next door in the same building, and the only difference was the lack of a sticker on my new mailbox.

Putting a KEINE WERBUNG BITTE sticker on the new mailbox got me back to no junk mail (except for the pizza delivery lot of course), so I concluded that the stickers do work (or should I say used to work???).

My current problem is that I now have an all-in-one mailbox, so the free newspapers are competing for space with proper mail, and I need to be careful that I don't recycle the odd bit of genuine mail by mistake.

At my last place there was a shelf above the postboxes where you could put the junk, and the Hauswart would recycle it for us.

I think its you that demonstrating a sense of humour failure coupled with a common-mode tetchiness. The comment was quite funny. Roll with it .

I have a standard letter box with a lockable bit for letters, and a larger area below for parcels and such, with an unlocked door.

Whenever I check my post, I'm in the habit of moving all the free papers and unaddressed junk mail from the top locked part into the open bit at the bottom, for disposal at a later date. Today I checked the box to find all these free papers and junk mails had been removed by persons unknown.

What would they want with it all? Guerrilla recyclers, or nefarious ID thieves? Not so much worried as puzzled.

My nieghbour has an attention and alarm security system on thier mailbox....so I guess this might answer ur question..Becareful there is alot of thefts in Swiss

Hello, if you have a cat or a dog, it is well possible that either one is younger than this thread here where the newest post before yours is more than two years old

i was going to make my own by cutting the banner of the newspaper and putting a red cross through it with a marker. this should be clear and avoid any language barriers
