| | | This sucks
Ok y'all, don't panic, Slammer is just gonna let off a bit of steam.
BEING UNEMPLOYED SUCKS!
It's not the constant stream of CV's going out, or the no answers or the "sorry but we regret" things, it's the buggers who have me in for a interview, go through my specs then tell me that I have the qualifications and then some, but they have a policy in place of not hiring over 50ties. The next time I swear to the Spaghetti monster to drag the little weed over the table and show the bugger what I think of the policy.
Perhaps I need to bail out of the business and do something else, but I do my stuff very well.
Time waxes long in my pokey hole, I have had all the internet I can stand, the telly sucks, all books are read and then..!
For the last two 4orking hours my mad landlady has been clattering away on her ancient typewriter.

Dear Slammer, I honestly feel for you. I had the ehem..good luck? that I had the accident while I was unemployed and most my unemployed time I got paid by the insurance...however, it does suck to be unemployed and to wonder when you will be back in the game
I cannot understand why would anyone invite you for an interview just to tell you well, but we do not gire over 50s. Isn't that a discriminatory practice? and what is worse, why do they make you waste your time, I am assuming you disclosed this information when you handed in your CV?
Sorry they made you waste your time, big hugs and good vices your way!!!

Seems strange being interviewed by a company that does not employ over fifty year olds if your age is on the CV! Anyway stop feeling sorry for yourself, we all have been there at sometime. Yup! It sucks, my age is on my CV, however their wording is very clever as not to include "you are too old granddad, now saddle your zimmerframe and hobble off into the sunset"
"YEE HA!"
To be fair this was a international company not based in CH.
What I do.
Setting up and configuring of prepress systems across all disciplines, offset, silk, flexo, digital, both in hardware and software, also the training and generic broad shoulder for customers to cry on, support as it is also knows as.
Nobody wants to employ a (let's just say) seasoned person but they want to hire and burn a 30 year old.
However I was offered a freelance deal from the above mentioned international company, now I am not picky but the conditions in the contract that was thrust under my nose was less than optimum.

Sorry they made you waste your time, big hugs and good vices your way!!! | | | | | I think a lot of companies have their internal candidate and by law are required to at least show evidence that they have adverstised the job publicly. Of course the internal candidate will get the job, no matter how high the quality of the external ones. I ALWAYS ask if they have an internal candidate. Saves raising expectations...

I have had a few CV's come back with the question of Freelance, but I have been doing that for some years now and at the end of the day I came to realize that my bank account is not getting anywhere, especially with AnoBAg in CH.

Take a holiday man, get out of your shithole and feel alive and most of all stop feeling sorry for yourself. If you are physically fit there is no reason why you should not enjoy life. Hello,
I just wanted to add something....
You will obviously find employment one day, but something I miss now, that I'm working is having the time to do things I like and keep active and social. The worst thing you can do is nothing. I know you've said you're all read out - I understand, but maybe you can do a short online course, buy a book geared towards a language exam, volunteer an afternoon at a charity shop.
Doing things = opportunities.
It also keeps you focussed on your life, and self-improvement, that way you'll keep your esteem too. It can be very de-motivating being out of work, but you really have to fight to keep on top of it. When I was unemployed, I was so worried I'd never have a job again, I didn't even enjoy the freetime I had! Good luck!

what I would say is... (maybe put on some headphones and find your favorite music while trying to search for work... also, and this will sound corny, but I do believe in the power of positive thinking and attraction.. believe you will find a job, one that you want, and certainly (with some hope and a bit of luck) it will happen
whenever i read posts like this I get stressed for those in the situation.. i know what it is like and i know how hard it is to bounce back from the emotional drain, the humility, rejection, etc. but, really, the truth is, you are good at what you do, you know how to run circles around the others, and you just have to ensure those who potentially will hire you that they are better off because you took the time to send in your CV
nothing short of the best of luck.. be tenacious!!!

Keep at it! Stay possitive, your time will come.
I went through 18 months of being unemployed (yes over 50) sending out CVs by the score, even went through re-training with RAV (an option), but after all the schooling got back into my own occupation after all . Good things DO happen to thoes who want instead of wait.
Good Good Luck with your search
