| | | Car mechanic lost his mind?
So here is the deal. I took my car to be fixed under warranty to a large dealer. Told him to change the amplifier and the two front speakers. He gives me a courtesy car and I drive off. He calls me and says no need to change hardware, just update the software. I return courtesy car without filling up the tank and pick up my own car.
Of course the problem was not fixed. So I go back and this time he does what I told him. Seems to be ok but I get a bill in the post for chf 100 for the gas I used in the courtesy car I used the second time
So what would you do with this bill? I am tempted to tell them to put this bill where the sun don't shine. Basically, noone told me i had to pay for gas, and more importantly, by not fixing the car the first time, i was forced to go back there again and waste my time and gas in my car. Btw, this was not a rental car he gave me but one of the dealership's demo cars.

How much of the tank did you use? If you used 100 CHF of gas, that seems fair. If you used very little, it seems harsh.

It might be that I am living in a parallel universe, but since when is fuel for free in a courtesy car? Isn't it more than normal that you fill the tank up with what you have used?

Well.... honestly, i would assume you return the car the way you received it. . . no damage & diesel/petrol.
Id pay.
They gave you a courtesy car - And thats it.

I might be a bit too Swiss, but in my mind you pay for what you use... A courtesy car is just that - a car.
If you get a car with a full tank, you give it back in the same state. I don't see why your car dealer should pay for your gas.

Rental places and jnsurance companies tell me 10 times to return the car with a full tank

Pay it - you used the gas.
I mean seriously, the dealerships lends you a car for which you paid nothing, and now you don't want to pay for the fuel you used while driving it around
You would have had to pay for the fuel anyway if it was your own car. What makes you think that you shouldn't because it was a loan car?
I don't think you should need to be told or read the fine print to understand that you're responsible for the fuel you use.

What I find rather strange is, that OP didn't have to sign off the "courtesy" vehicle.

So let me get this straight. The car had a manufacturing defect, causing me to waste my time and gas. And I have to pay for the dealers gas? When I lived in London, my dealer delivered my car to my house from very far away and never asked me to pay for his apprentice train fare to get back to the shop.

I used about 100 chuffs worth. | | | | | You got a free courtesy car, spent 50-60 liter of fuel... And you find it weird that YOU have to pay for the fuel?!
While you were at it...Why didn't you go on a trip to Europe's southeast point? I mean it must be really nice there this time of the year.
Topic should be : "Customer lost his mind?"
I would have charged you 2x for the fuel as rental companies do...

Why don't you just contest the ticket and say that you're displeased because you were not notified that you would have to pay. If they care about customer service (yes, I realize that this is Switzerland and not the US ), then they may reconsider.
If they still tell you to pay, then just pay. But maybe drop the cash on their feet or something. make them work for it | | This user would like to thank M. Ploymi for this useful post: | |
