| | | Swimming shorts
Hi all,
Yesterday I took my daughter to the new swimming pool in Chéserex. I was wearing Speedo swimming shorts, similar to these. Imagine my surprise when one of the pool attendants approached me quite aggressively and told me that these shorts are "unhygienic" and I had to leave immediately. No "sorry", no "excuse me", nothing. When I protested, he called over some of his fellow pool people and they all proceeded to aggressively harangue me; one guy even grabbed my arm and looked like he was going to hit me. I stormed off in a huff and, needless to say, won't be going back there again.
Can anyone shed some light on what this about and why perfectly good swimming shorts are considered "unhygienic"?
Thanks!

Because we women prefer to see these:
Seriously, I have no idea. Hope someone else can help you out. In our local pool, swimming trunks are allowed.

Have a look at this article and you will have your answer.
I suppose your swim shorts looked too much like regular shorts or boxer shorts, which you may have been wearing all day rather than bringing along a fresh, clean tiny Speedo to wear in the pool.
(Nevermind the fact that a tiny Speedo could have been worn all day in place of briefs, and moved around in a way that could collect "dust and debris" from much further nether regions of the male anatomy than a pair of baggy swim trunks ).
In my experience having taken my family to pools in both France and Switzerland, it was VERY strictly enforced in France, but not enforced at all at the pool we went to in Switzerland. Obviously, different pools in Switzerland can choose whether to take a French stance on trunks or whether to be more flexible.

They assume that these shorts are worn out of the swimming pool - IE all day - sitting on the ground etc etc
How this logic works in January I am not sure.

Ok. When in Rome..
These are considered unfit because they are basically viewed as giant underwear slash shorts and nobody really knows if you only use them for public pool. Those tiny speedos are small (and evidently only for swimming), hence it is only a little piece of fabric (and skin tight so you don't really end up washing your balls in a public pool loosely) that gets soaked in shared water.
I know..it's a little weird. But pool customs are particular anywhere you go. Imagine my horror when they whistled me (a grown up woman) out of a NJ public pool in the US because it was the time to swim for the adults (kids and adults took turns). Having baby face sucks.

"Ok. When in Rome.."
I never really understand this kind of response. It strikes me as unacceptable that the OP was harangued and had his arm grabbed by a pool attendant for wearing a wrong pair of shorts. Even in Rome.

Of course it is not acceptable to be treated as he wrote, I leave it up to OP if he feels like seeing the manager of the facility to address the behavior of his staff.

They have this funny idea that when you wear the short, your fluffy pubic hair can go where ever they're pleased while speedos keeps everything in.
Now, I would like to see a study on this.

All English people assume the French never shower, so I am not surprised at these rules...
... however I had exactly the same experience in France, I was shown the lost property office and I used someone elses trunks... Eek! | | This user would like to thank Sbrinz for this useful post: | |

I think it is unacceptable to be manhandled by any person, especially if you are in just your swimming trunks and nothing else. No concealed carry's I suppose.
I'd go see the manager of the pool and explain to them that your shorts are swimming trunks and you did not wear them elsewhere.
If it is still disallowed, explain your displeasure at the response (physical) of their staff.
And....don't ever go back there ever.
Now, will you please satisfy all the ladies here and post a real photo of you and your mystery shorts?
