| | | Unbelievable! Police wrongfully kicked in door and entered my apartment
Last Friday, after being 3 weeks in Hollidays in my country, i returned to Switzerland. What was about to happen, never cross my mind, not im my worst
nightmares.... so here it goes:
Yesterday, around 7 am, i woke up suddenly, with the police inside my flat. Dazed, i asked what was happening, and in very inappropriate and arrogant manner, the two officers replied saying that they were there to arrest me
because of the mistreatment I inflicted on my dogs, and for that same reason they had to kick my door.
The most curious thing in the middle of all this is that I do not have nor never had dogs or any other animal. So i told them that it was a mistake. The two police officer looked each other and asked me if my neighbour had dogs. I replied "yes she has". With this asnwer, they told the
locksmith to change the lock of my door and to give the new keys... and left...
without an apology!!!!
But calm ... The best was yet to come!!! The locksmith after changing my lock
gave me the bill!!! In my name!!! For me to pay for it!!!
Throughout my life I have lived in several countries, African, South American and European... and until now, never heard about a situation like this one.
What annoys me most is the lack of respect and contempt with which I was treated ...
It seens that incompetence, arrogance, poor education and abuse of power can also be found among of the POLIZEI after all! living and learning...

Call the office, talk to someone senior, explain the situation. I don't know why they wouldn't reimburse you. It was their mistake, after all.

More than the reimbursement that is nothing more than their duty, the minimum requirement is a simple apology ... for the sake of decency!

Now, you unfortunately HAVE accepted the bill. So, send it to Stadt Zürich
Polizeidepartement
Bahnhofquai 3
Amtshaus I
8001 Zürich
and state that, unless you got a serious confirmation that every is settled correctly, you had to consult a lawyer

I'd get a lawyer and sue their balls off. Or at least threaten to do so in very clear terms.

However, you'll still need to contact the police department to get reimbursed for the lock and hopefully then you'll get the apology you're owed.
Good luck.

You must talk to their officers for an apology, and based on that they or insurance will take care of the charges. Anyways, I am more amazed to know that this can happen in Switzerland.

Forcing entry into a private home without a warrant is new to me ... It is legal in Switzerland?

I don't know about other Cantons. But I know that it is not amazing at all that this can happen in Zürich. Where the relationship between many policemen and the city population deterioriated since the early 1970ies. I mean, Zürcher regard many of those Innerschwyzer Tschugger as arrogant and pompous and self-assuming, while for sure many of them regard the Zürcher as arrogant and oppressive | | The following 2 users would like to thank Wollishofener for this useful post:

that is what we get out of employing half of Central Switzerland in our police force and in our public transport, in spite of the point that these lousy chaps detest and hate our city including inhabitants quite fiercely | | The following 6 users would like to thank Wollishofener for this useful post:

Also, if you are renting the flat, contact your letting agency and request they inspect the repairs so you don't get caught with a surprise repair charge when you move out. Don't let the police off the hook until you have written confirmation that the repairs are satisfactory to the landlord.
