Hi everyone,

Our bikes have recently been stolen from our garage near Basel city. We have good reasons to suspect who did it and it is very probable that those bikes are sold to a member of the English forum (though obviously not through the EF). If you are offered them, please know that they are stolen bikes and report it to the police.

Ladies' bike has a basket in the back (instead of in the front like in the pictureS). Colors of both bikes are as shown. Bikes in perfect shape state.

its not really what i asked, are these the only black and white bikes in town then?

i asked the model as I know a lot of english speaking people in basel, most of who dont look on forums or facebook so thought i may try help you by telling them.

its not much use saying look for a black and white bike and another black and white bike called diamo.....

The model of the bike is not written on them, so it won't make much of a difference for you to know.

Brands are Raleigh and Diamant.

Stolen from the garage? Were they locked up? If you know who did it, maybe you should tell the police and they can follow up...

Some years ago some mothers whose children go to one of the expensive Swiss Private schools happened to meet by chance, not on the same day, but in the same month, and learned that all had suffered thefts of bicycles, either the children's, bikes or the parents bikes from their garages or gardens, (including one locked garage!) almost within the same week, yet each family lived in different villages and many miles from each other.

Statistically it is too much of a coincidence.

Somewhere out there is a shop or a fence who will buy stolen bikes. You wont find it by googling, the information is only available by word of mouth from friend to friend. Try asking about second hand bike shops, and how they source their stock. I bet one of them has a dodgy source.

Except Diamant is clearly visible on the gents' bike...

My friend's bike was also stolen in Zurich and very luckyly he found it in the used bike bazaar in Zurich, the guy tried to sell him his bike and he threatened him and he got his bike back for free.

The best is just nnot to buy used bike in bazaars, I believe most of them are stolen

Hey Sendil. My husband bike has just been stolen and we are thinking where to look for it. Can you tell me which bike bazaar you mean so that we can go and search for it? Do you have any other suggestions where we should look? Thank you in advance for you help,

Switzerland is a strange place, leave your phone, wallet and keys at a bar or at a restaurant and get a letter in the mail saying they have been handed into the police (money not taken). Lock a crappy bike (not referring to your bikes here, referring to my girlfriends bike) to a fence in the city, turn around for five mins (actually one night) and its gone. Go figure.

I suspect the black market is thriving with crappy old bikes. I recommend keep any good bikes in your man cage (aka cellar). Over and out.

If the bikes are worth anything much you're likely to find they are re-sold outside of Switzerland. Most likely to the east according to a Police acquaintance.
If the bike is old and/or cheap it's more likely to have been stolen by a drunk who didn't want to walk home and it is now lying in a stream somewhere.

They actually sell GPS trackers for bikes for this very purpose now.

Like Cube, Raleigh, Trek etc. and not model like "Flaming bud" or "Swiss Breeze".
