Super bad experience!! what should we do?

Today my husband and I went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. We ordered Chicken Fajitas... and guess what, the chicken tasted like burnt tofu.. i mean it was spoilt and i guess a week old..

We just had a bite and knew there is something terribly wrong, we called the waiter and told him that chicken is spoilt.. he said "we sell 200 fajitas everyday and we heard no complains ever"...(very arrogant and rude)

We asked him to call the manager.. waiters completely ignored us for 15 odd minutes..we then stood up and went to the counter to talk to the manager.to our shock manager says 'if you didn't like it, its your problem".. you need to pay for it and you may choose to not come here again...what??.. very very rude.. btw it wasnt a cheap fajitas place.. it was 33 francs each ...

We argued that why should we pay..as it was spoilt and we didnt ate it.. he said u need to pay or we call the police...

where in the hell police came in the picture.. they werent sorry at all... it was humiliating..

In all our anger...we said call the police...

Police came in 10 mins or so...4 guys in total... they were very friendly with the manager.. we explained our stance and he said you ordered hence you need to pay irrespective... what?? seriously??

we thought there is no point dragging the issue.. and we paid 81 francs and left...

btw the police guy noted my husband's permit card details... but why?? my husband is bit worried that police might just make a case against us...really?? is it possible?

Can we do anything here?? appreciate your help and guidance..

A prime example of crap Swiss Customer Service. Name and shame. Find restaurant review sites and post your story. Blog it. Humiliate these idiots.

Who knows what the law is here ?

I agree with the OP but they should have paid, unless the food is dangerous for health but not because it just did not meet expectations. For that you indeed have review websites

Wow. What an awful experience.

I am always amazed at how poorly customers are treated here in CH. The Swiss mentality seems to be that customers are being done a favor. It's quite bizarre.

I have to admit... I'm curious what restaurant it is. I love Mexican food but would avoid that place like the plague.

But the OP said that it tasted spoiled. And spoiled chicken can be very dangerous.

Wait 24-48 hours. Go to your doctor complaining of stomach/bowel pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Tell them you ate suspect chicken from this place. You figure out the rest...

Too late now, but you should have taken some/all of the chicken and told the manager that you were going to get it analysed.

Once the restauarant (staff) have the evidence, they can be as bold as they want.

I'd write to the Geneva Tourist Board- name and shame the restaurant and ask for advice on how to take this further. I got campylobactor after eating poorly cooked chicken at a Zizzi restaurant (Market Harborough UK) and despite getting the doctors report, they did absolutely nothing about it and never even acknowledged my letter.

I disagree, you are not just paying for food, as in a supermarket, part of the price includes service , cooking, presentation, delivery etc etc when eating a meal in a restaurant. Also, implied is that food should be of sufficient quality, if not, you do not get what you pay for thus you do not pay. If I ordered a rare steak, and got a steak well done, I would not pay for it as I did not order a well done steak. Same for fajitas, I pay for what I ordered not for what they decide to give me.

If you're really sure the chicken was off and not just poor quality or badly cooked, then you should really inform the Canton's environmental health authority. For certain people, getting food poisoning can be a very dangerous matter.

I find that posting and detailing your experience online and describing the individuals you interacted with in detail is very effective in getting results, or at least creating awareness so other people don't have the same misfortune you did

It's a mistake (for me at least) that you allowed them to call the cops, at that point when they mentioned the police you should have not bluffed and just pay and move on. The reason I say this it's because foreigners + police + bizarre disputes = are never good thing in Switzerland.

For the coppers you'll be just another time wasters who don't want to pay and cause issues, they will side with the restaurant on this one. As you've payed already, I think the worst that can happen to you is to receive a bill from the police for their intervention - but I am not sure about that.

I understand you and agree with you, but honestly, customer care is understood differently in Switzerland and doesn't help trying to change them...

The doctor's advice I think is the best, but who knows if they will reimburse you the dinner and the doctors fees...So probably just to forget about it and....post it on the internet?

I know some people, where the police would have came for entirely different reasons, if that would have happened to them.

That's what I did once and the authorities were very grateful for the tip.
