Yech. Yech yech yech.

I am not English but I hate this. Always ask what (black) tea they have at restaurants.

Re coffee at HB: Spectaculo is nice but at track 54 so depends where you head to. But to get in at the back of the train and change near 54 can be less a hassle. I always dl that.

Re: Disgusting Coffee at Zurich HB

Jokes, puns and other random shenanigans aside. I do not find it normal to pay 4.4CHF for a cup of lukewarm piss tasting excuse for coffee. If this were somewhere in rural Uzbekistan, then I would understand...but it is central Zurich, with a high number of commuters whom all cannot afford to drop by a decent coffee place. This being said, it is ok if you rob me...but for goodness sake, give me at least some sort of value other than convenience. There, Monday morning rant part 2 over.

The wages here are shocking, aren't they..?

Seriously, though, try the recommendations earlier in the thread. There are some decent places in the railway station where they have a nice take away coffee for a reasonable place.

If you are an impoverished commuter, though, can I suggest you do as I do and invest in a flask and BYO?

I was thinking more of timely restricted...but you knew that of course. If I´d bring my flask, it would certainly be a very intersting Monday morning.

Americans complaining about coffee...
Wait...what? This guy is american and complaining about coffee? He musta come from New York or something where there are probably some decent coffee places around...at least so I have been told, because if you're interested in some of that "dirty sock water" as my lovely other half likes to call it, I'd be more than happy to pick you up some of that savory Maxwell house back in the states next time I go! Really the coffee isn't bad here...decent, but what do expect, Switzerland hasn't gotten into the "on-the-go" food and drinks like the USA, and thank god! The last thing I wanna end up seeing is people walking around with big gulps and smashing hot dogs into their faces. I hope to never see, one hand always reserved for carrying the beverages with the Swiss, like in america! bah!

Nope, sorry - thought you were referring to cost rather than time constraints.

Indeed, with the BYO flask, who knows what you can top it up with on a grey Monday morning...

I know when somebody lives somewhere for ever, things aggravate more, it gets rubbed in easier, you notice it, hence the need for our complaint corner...But it's weird, none of my friends and family there in the US cave in this weirdness you described. The opposite.

While on my way to work, I rarely see a person without redbull, ice tea, or some coffee to go in their hands, often sportin greasy croissant crumbles still on their blazers..I don't think it's better. Here people often reserve their hand for a cig. At least people here walk a lot, public transport in the US sucks.

I urge you to try the tuk-tuk coffee at the main station in Zurich, it is easily the most disgusting beverage you´ll ever taste in your life.

In Switzerland, that hand is reserved for Red Bull.

Now once in a while, due to time contraints, I have to opt out of my homegrown Kopi Luwak from virgin gerbils out of some far away island and I´m forced to rejoice from a cup from your common coffee stall. There are but 3 places, where you can get coffee on the run at the mainstation in Zurich. One is the Segafredo Tuk-Tuk, which by the way also sells hotdogs, the other is the newly built Segafredo takeaway stall or if you´re really desperate the kiosk. Both the kiosk and the Tuk-Tuk device sell one disgusting coffee, which I could not even finish.... The Segafredo stall is only better in terms of flavor, but it still tastes like some lukewarm cup of watery something. I really wish, there were some halfway decent options, especially considering the exorbitant price we pay for disgusting brew. There, end of Monday morning rant.

erm, il baretto? ok, you have to lineup. to go, agreed, no good coffee available. but can you name one eg grand central station NYC? i dont find london victoria or liverpool street any better option for take away coffee? what city you found good to go coffee?

I disagree - I've tasted Pabst Blue Ribbon. Perrier tastes more like beer than that.

Re: Disgusting Coffee at Zurich HB

Il Baretto is fine and Blueberry also does a nice cappucino. Really cannot agree with your OP, OP.

While you are at it, pick up a club bagel at Blueberry. Ask for it warm. It may still have cold spots in it when warmed up, but don't go telling me it isn't nice either.

Please try these suggestions soon and report back to me directly, thanks :-)

edit: oh, and flow23 is right. In london takeaway coffee at stations is most likely to have far to much milk and be burned all to hell.

As mentioned in the thread. For people under time contraints the options are rather meager. If I had 30mins, I would stroll over to http://www.cafe-noir.ch/ where I sure could have a decent coffee. However, since I need to catch another train within 10 or so minutes, I am limited to the takeaway options.

Re: Disgusting Coffee at Zurich HB

I only ever bought a coffee in Blueberry once, that was one time too many.

One of the best take away coffee's I ever had was from Starbucks in Glasgow Queen Street station. We were only looking for a caffeine fix and ended up with a seriously good coffee, that was quite a shock :-)
