Coriander Ruins My Life!

Lunchtime at the canteen today: Amazing Basmati Rice, Delicious Vegetable Samosa's and a wonderful cucumber salad with a light yoghurt and mint dressing...

So let's start with the tasty lookin' cucumber salad. NOM!!!

But hang on, what is that flavor taking over? Oh FFS - no... this can't be... PLEASE NO!!!....................... ... ... !!!

Well - yeah! Here we go again: yet another dish ruined because no one warned me about the disgusting, atrocious, soapy-tastin' evil herb, which was once again ridiculously clever hidden in my meal!

I know it's a bit #firstworldproblem - but clearly, I can't be the only one who hates it with a vengeance!?

At least my desk neighbor can fork into my ruined dish now... I'd hate to throw it away, and it just really doesn't help that it looked so amazing! Someone has to STOP CORIANDER NOW!!!

For me it's not coriander, rather rucola. Every salad or pizza by the handful

Now THAT on the other hand is something I really love!

Even on my favourite pizza: Rucola, Parma-Ham and Parmesan Shavings and I'll be yours... truly... forever... until you run out of such ingredients at least!

Re: Coriander Ruins My Life!

Yummy Coriander love it.......pepper on the other hand.....yuck.......or celery........yuck yuck

You see..... This is all about taste. Don't complain here if you don't like something. Tell it to the people running the restaurant/canteen.

Grow up!

Ummm, it's not just a complaint, but also a bit cynical if you didn't get "the hint"... that's also about taste... and plenty of flavor!
Also: This happens to be the actual COMPLAINT CORNER!

Did you know that whether you love or hate Coriander depends on your genetic variants.

Re: Coriander Ruins My Life!

Quite like the coriander actually it's the freaking gherkins that get me.
Why does everything have to have gherkin in it, even if a big slice is used as a garnish the whole dish still tastes of it after you remove it and if they chop it up and mix it in that's worse still.

Re: Coriander Ruins My Life!

LOL!!! What is it about this stuff? Most polarizing cooking herb on the planet. Me, I love it, so much that I grow my own & will pick leaves to nibble on just for the WOW! It's what the color Green tastes like.

Integral ingredient in raita (for Indian food) & my guacamole/Mexican/Tex-Mex recipes. Of course I have friends who hate the stuff, but thank goodness el husbando loves it--that could easily have derailed our relationship at the outset. )

Although my wife used to absolutely hate it, she loves it now.

I think you can get used to it over time but you have to keep at it.

Which makes sense according the article as it suggests that only 10% of coriander haters do so because of inherited genes.

That must make the other 90% fussy eaters.

First time I've heard anyone describe coriander as soapy. Learn something new every day. I love the stuff and agree with Merchglas that it's what the color green tastes like.

I don't think you're on your own.... but definitely in the minority.

I've met a few people who hate corriander with a passion, but for me the taste is a mild compliment rather than an overwhelming sensation
(like how the French use Garlic)

I guess some people are just sensitive to the taste of it, whereas most people are not - There are at least a billion Asians who seem to dig it, so they can't be wrong.
...... I'm on their side as well.

If you're eating Asian food and you HATE corriander, then you should probably ask if it has corriander in it.
If you're otherwise having a fondue, I'd say you're pretty safe.

Strange. That makes me curious now though - why could the color green not also taste like peppermint? nettles? cucumbers? peppers? parsley or salad then? They're all green or have green variations too! lol

No thanks.

I too do not like the taste of Fresh Coriander. Count myself lucky at least not allergic to it, like some people are with some foods and that have bad reactions, when something unexpected by a dish of food.

Unfortunately Fresh Coriander is sometimes used as last minute garnish, not shown or mentioned on the menu. (the chef probably thinks he is doing something nice)

by works canteen, I got used to asking what is that green stuff, as difficult to tell by sight what can be the green garnish chopped up with various dishes.

But on the odd occasion by new restaurant, had forgotten to ask or say, I hate coriander and ended up with a dish of food almost impossible to eat, as just something by the taste Yukky. Perhaps a slimming diet idea!

I remember once going to a charity dinner event & every course had it sprinkled on. think I got hold of some bread to eat.
