This forum isn't (and never has been from what I have read) for massaging peoples egos or for people to come expecting to be told everything is going to be ok or that people agree with everything they are saying. if you want that then go register on Mumsnet.

When people talk rubbish they will be called out for it. If people behave in a way that other people disagree with then they will voice that opinion.

If people are not adult enough to take criticism from complete strangers on the chin then they shouldn't be using internet forums to broach their personal issues. End of story.
From what I've heard of Mumsnet is is certainly not that either!

From what I hear that is only if you are a man... then you can expect to be ripped to shreds.

Re: The Treatment of New Posters

I can't believe nobody has posted a "you wouldn't talk like that if you met someone in real life" for a while. It is normally pulled out when Richdog has posted a couple of insults and someone decides to don a cape and ride to rescue a perceived damsel in distress - even if said damsel is a pink lipstick wearing Dougal in a mini-skirt and boob tube - smoking a menthol from a holder.

Re: The Treatment of New Posters

Had to log on to get an e-mail address of someone which I had not made a not of. Before I give EF a much longer rest, I'd like to thank the many many messages received in support of my post, including all those who got in touch by other means- it meant a lot.

I didn't 'flounce' to get sympathy- but because, at the end of the day, life is just too short truly. With my new knee I have now a new lease of life- and it's time to get off line, go walking and write those books. Thanks- EF has been a great place most of the time since we moved from the UK- life goes on. Au revoir.

We know you didn't look for sympathy, please do ignore some posts...To be honest I never thought you take some characters here so seriously. I for one will miss your posts but do whatever you have to do...I understand your decision.

It's not just new posters who are treated very badly either. Some who have tried to be really helpful, both on here and in practical terms in real life - are treated abominably by a few - this at a time when they all know that one is at very low point. Kicking people when they are down is just not a good way imho.

What is the male equivalent of 'a coven of witches'? Basta, enough, ça suffit, genug- end of.

So you are right Grumpy and others- some don't return because they were bitten at the first hurdle. Others have had enough, because life is hard enough without being kicked repeatedly when you are down.
Hope you come back Odile, we will miss you, although I understand your reasons for leaving.

EF is like facebook for the folks that feel too old to go to FB so give them a break how would they have fun otherwise?
newbie bashing is one of the main part of the fun

Re: The Treatment of New Posters

There is always some sort of bashing on forums, everyone should understand it and not take it too personally. However, there should also be some way of letting the bashers know that what they are doing is wrong. Although they may not see themselves as useless or aggressive, but merely sarcastic, sarcasm too should be limited, although nothing is more sarcastic than the life itself - especially that of a clueless expat in a strange foreign country

And you really believe that someone who is deliberately an a***ole does really care if something is right or wrong..
I think you are about to accuse them of possessing something people used to call conscience..
