I have been with Digitec from their beginning. But now it might be finishing

Digitec's penny-pinching has been getting worse recently and their response to a customer service request recently was almost insulting in its dismissiveness. I've made a conscious decision to shop elsewhere unless I have no other choice and have already paid a slight premium for a few items just to avoid getting it from them.

Re: Digitec [9 CHF Charge for Small Orders]

Well, Mirgos bought Digitec (ok, they have 30% right now and an option to buy a controlling majority by 2015) and is slowly integrating it into the Swiss service landscape... the funny thing is that I though the company started in Zurich in the Technopark to supply the local start-ups with small IT stuff, not flat screen TVs.

Re: Digitec

indeed I remember Digitec as a boxroom above the post near Bahnhof Wiedikon in Zurich.....my first purchase was some 128Mb RAM chips IIRC.

But now I see I can save 15 francs on my BlueLounge box and I will.

And you can pay by invoice online!
Also true.

In addition, I have their "Shopping Card", and use it almost exclusively now to pay for larger purchases. Interest rate isn't bad, and it's so easy to spread the cost of things over several months. If I have a problem, their customer service team has been super quick and efficient to respond.

In fact, I actually really like Media Markt.

Inter Discount on the other hand... bunch of ****'s

I now almost exclusively shop at Media Markt unless something can be found much cheaper elsewhere. They often agree to price-match Digitec on many things anyway!
I tried that once on an item for about 2000CHF. They would not even give me 1CHF off so I walked out and bought it mail order. I wasn't expecting them to match the price but I did feel they were over charging. I'm sure it depends which sales person you speak to.

I didn't realise this was a new rule. Anything I've bought from digitec has been well over 50chf.

But I needed speakers for my computer that came to 15CHF and I wasn't willing to pay the extra 9CHF. It seems they don't have a delivery charge now though? I'm sure they did before?

No, but they always had a surcharge when paying by any type of card (Postfinance, VISA etc) which amounts to the same kind of thing.

That greatly annoys me too.

I always paid with a Postfinance card with no additional charge. Not for delivery though, I always went to the shop, dunno if it makes a difference.

I don't know about interdiscount but I know MediaMarkt do add a 2.5% fee for using Mastercard (don't know about visa) online. And in store they only accept their own cards or maestro. They do however allow you to pay by invoice at no extra cost so there is that!

I've never ordered online with interdiscount so couldn't comment.

Is it better for a firm to increase all their prices to cover the cost of credit card processing and then offer "no charge for credit cards" or to offer a choice, where you can pay for free by bank transfer?

All retailers that don't charge for cards have to include it in their price. That's why many offer a discount for cash. You're not getting something for free.

I'm not sure why they charge for Postfinance cards when paying online. Perhaps Postfinance charge for this online service.

Having "free" postage on all items must have been a loss maker for small items but it did mean that people, like myself, returned again and again to order many high price items from Digitec. I always thought it was probably a good business model that retained loyal clients. Charging 9CHF will lose them many of these clients.

Re: Digitec

to be honest I think that Digitec is simply passing on the commission charged by the card providers and I don't mind that when using my credit card - after all, it makes them jointly liable if anything goes wrong with my new toys.

But the 9 francs is bollocks. But I see a workaround.....order something to take it over 50,- and then return the 2nd item. Now that'll be annoying for them if everyone does that....

Re: Digitec [9 CHF Charge for Small Orders]

just looking on toppreis.ch and Digitec is one of the very few that charge now 9 CHF extra for small orders. Maybe the influence of Migros mobsters

Well I am now using microspot.ch and they have good prices with a pickup point in Zürich. Guess Digitec is just intereted in the big buyers now

I shop at Media Markt in-store a lot and they do not charge anything extra for PostFinance or VISA... and the prices of what I buy are at advertised Digitec levels or lower.

I've certainly never had that experience. I go to Media Markt to test things out or look at them in person. The prices on everything I've bought - laptops, cameras, phones etc have always been much higher at Media Markt. I go in with a list of items I'm interested in and the price I can buy them online for. Presenting items in a store will always cost more than mail order due to the overheads. Only when the difference has been small, do I prefer the convenience of walking out of the store with the product.

Now they impose a 9 CHF extra charge for orders under 50 CHF. My days of shopping with digitec are coming to an end. Such a**e holes. I wanted to buy a micro SDHC card. They wanted 39 CHF plus 9 CHF extra charge.

At Microspot the price for this card in total was 28 CHF with a pick up in Zürich.
this isn't to join in and complaining about digitic, maybe just solve your problem..

A LOT of stuff is Digitec price or cheaper (phones, laptops, cameras, TV's), it depends what you're buying. I live next to one and am a very savvy shopper, so I'm well placed to judge.
