You don't ask but simply sit on said bag.
How could you?! When on a busy bus once, with people standing, I spotted what appeared to be an available seat, then noticed that it was occupied by a mini designer handbag. It was sort of off to the side next the owner, but the seat was clearly "taken". I just sat down. There seemed to be a pair of outraged beady eyes boring into the left-hand side of my head for a while, but the seat was quite comfortable!

Re: Get your bag off my seat

Re: One transit ticket entitles you to how many seats?
It's not the first, and I am sorry to say it won't be my last unpleasant experience here.

I boarded a train at Solothurn on a Saturday morning around 10 am. The platform was full of soldiers, and so we were all trying to find somewhere to sit down. Next to me was a slim middle aged woman holding her newspaper up, so I could not see her face, and with her legs across the spare empty seat.

I assessed the situation: she was intent on keeping the spare seat free. So I just sat down on her legs. She was furious! She was spitting the venomous German words out!

I bet she doesn't try that trick again!

Worse is the "I'll pretend I'm asleep and cover my head, so no-one will disturb me to move my bag".

I've even seen someone employ this trick to take up the entire four-seat unit.
Did someone just get off with a bag that wasn't theirs (not that this would happen in lawful CH)

A bag on a seat doesn't bother me. I ask to get it removed so I can sit. What bothers me is the amount of men affected with a kind of disease which result of an overgrowing testicules*.

They seem to have the need to sit with their legs as apart as they can get which make the person next to them sits in an angle to leave the poor man's testicules breath...

*or any possible rash...
It's called "breathing space", I believe.

There's a guy that does it on my morning commute into Zurich. When I see him, I just sit in the same section of 4, because I'm pretty much guaranteed to have an empty seat next to and across from me without having to pull any crappy tricks myself!

Seems it a favourite topic at the moment;

Women have taken to photgraphing offenders and posting the pictures online. Partly as a response to an earlier fad for pictures of women eating on trains.

I started pushing their legs away now. Done it last week to a guy who looked angry I took all the space designed with the seat...

Re: Get your bag off my seat

On my bus to work there is sometimes a lady that would sit in the aisle seat and put her handbag on the window seat. A few weeks ago when the bus was stuffed I started to talk to her about her bag, how beautiful it is and that it sure deserves a seat for itself and asked if she also speaks to the handbag and if it's already able to fetch little sticks. It worked...she left the bus at the next stop in total shock and panic

Sit down anyway?
Or tap them on the shoulder, say Entschuldigung and sit down?

No the mens pics has been around for few years... mumsnet had it for a while I believe.

There were calls to cut and hack men's balls off. This was championed as "women taking back control" and " girl power" .

imagine the huge scandal if it was a guys site.. womens breasts take up space lets hack them off.

Double Standards are rife.

Oh believe me, when necessary, I've done exactly that, accompanied by the requisite huffs and gruffs etc. It just galls me that they presume most people won't bother to do so.

I think it's more the legs that are in the way than the dangly bits. Otherwise the train carriage would be full of a certain Viz character...

OT, but the poor guy went on a massive restrictive diet, and lost half his weight in about 8 months. He now has a healthy BMI, but looks like he aged 15 years and is just the ghost of his former self.

I saw him at Leman centre coop, and he actually scared me!
