[..] you could also try to make a complaint with all the data you've got at diicot@mpublic.ro.
Thanks greenmount, yours is perhaps the most constructive comment in this thread.

I don't see the point of arguing about the political correctness of reporting fraud via an online forum. I have made it very clear that olx.ch is not to blame here, and even highlighted that they did respond, and actually, very fast and blocked the seller's account! So, kudos to olx.ch for their reaction, I've absolutely no complains there. Fault was all mine, I should have seen the signs.

But I have to say the warning lights should have been going off when the money was asked to be transferred to a Romanian bank.
It's actually the first warning given on the olx.ch website regarding phony sellers and fraud protection:

Q: "A quoi puis-je reconnaître qu’un vendeur a des intentions malhonnêtes?"
A: "Le vendeur te demande de virer de l’argent sur un compte à l’étranger."

Roughly translated to:
Q: How can I tell if a seller is dishonest?
A: The seller requests that you transfer funds to a foreign account"

And in fact, the biggest driver to post this on EF is not to get help, but to have this information publicly available on the Internet. Google indexes EF very often, in fact, it already indexed this thread, so now people searching for "fraud olx.ch" get this as 1st result, which hopefully might help someone who is unsure about whether to proceed with a transaction via olx or not.

You are making the assumption that somebody else would, for want of a better term, be as stupid and gulable as you: Nobody in their right mind would order something to be delivered from CH and paid in Romania, the other was around possibly.

Accept you lost and move on, for Chf 85.-- there is not much else you can do but chalk it up to experience.

Weather is getting better anyway so your brother can do things outside for summer, maybe find a small job to earn some $$ to buy another one.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, if it sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is !

Well, lots of trusting people get scammed all the time. Otherwise it wouldn't be such a cottage industry as it is in places like Nigeria and the USA. I think singling this person out, because you aren't as naïve, isn't correct. He wasn't looking to get something for almost nothing. He probably thought he was in Switzerland, and people are trustworthy here, and let his guard down. It happens often. No need to get hostile on the poor guy.

I don't think being trustful is a crime. It just makes those bastards' job easier, but the blame is not on you! Hope they already have the police tracking them down, as I'm sure you're not the the first victim.
As I figure you won't see your money back, consider it life lessons tuition.

I think you're being very unfair here. I actually bought something from you through the EF marketplace a couple of years ago. First off I'll make it absolutely clear to everybody here that the transaction went off without a single problem, a perfect transaction and exactly how it should be. A+++++ or whatever they write on ebay.

That said the transaction, as they normally do, required me to send you the money first. Now if you'd not sent me the item and just disappeared with the cash would that have made me stupid and gullible?

I think not - when you get inolved in an online transaction trust has to start somewhere otherwise nothing would ever be bought or sold on the internet. In our case the trust started with me and as such I accepted any risk.

Any online transaction with another private person has the potential for one of those parties to get ripped off. Having lived here for a while most of us are aware of the warning signs of a typical scam here. The OP, or the OP's parents haven't had the benefit of being here very long and likely would have not seen the warning signs. If you were to suddenly dump me in the OP's country it's a possibility that I'd get scammed on something as I wouldn't have the local knowledge.

No, the OP's not gullible and is certainly not stupid as they've proven that so far with their responses in this thread. It was just a case of failing to spot the warning signs that we're all familiar with due to our local knowledge.

Is this the right thread to ask if anyone has got a Romanian to Swiss electrical adapters as I just received a truck load of Xboxes that I'm trying to sell off cheap?

OLX is part of Ricardo. Yell and scream at Ricardo. I am not sure if the OLX membership is the same as when you sign up for Ricardo where you need to give your real name and address. As I am a Ricardo member I automatically have OLX access. By the way, OLX is the new name for Ricardolino.

I have never bought an item on OLX but I have been looking at something on there and have had contact with the advertiser. He is definitely living here. The item for sale is very big and I would have to pick it up.

A foreign bank should have been a warning sign. But still you have the person's details, you should be able to do something with this.

Seeing as the Xbox you bought is in Brugg, supposedly, and still advertised, maybe you should get someone to offer to buy it and pick it up. Then you have a local address and you could give this to the police.
Has anybody had any selling success on OLX?

Since it is free to advertise, it could be an interesting option.

Wouldn't it make sense for ricardo members to advertise the bulk of what they are selling on OLX and just maintain their ricardo presence as a sort of 'shop front', or doesn't it work that way?

Ricardo selling fees make selling on their look less attractive at first glance.

I have bought and sold a few items (less than 20) on ricardo over the years. OLX is new to me.

Re: Fraud via olx.ch

Ricardo offers some redress after the auction, 30 days after, and before 60 days, it costs 10%. But nothing on OLX
