Re: Coop sold me expired food

The American military have just announced that they are re-entering Iraq as there have been reports of yoghurts of mass destruction going bad after being left out in the Sunni.

In the interest of scientific research (and because I had bug*er all else to do), yesterday I found and more importantly ate an Activia yogurt that was lurking in my wine fridge..... don't ask why, I've no idea.

Result; I'm still here, I didn't explode in any way shape or form.
Conclusion; if your yogurt hasn't turned green, taste odd or is quietly fizzing, it's probably safe.
Please report back every hour. As your silence may be mistaken for the yogurt 'kicking in' late (just like in "The Wolf of Wall Street" movie)!

i would not take this so easy FFS! You are exactly right taking this risk factor to this board to get advice from us to get a neutral opinion (as we swiss citizens are).

Edit:

I did a quick google on "exploding yogurt injuries" and I found one story - the story that you referred to in your previous post. It's a one off freak accident.
I love the name of the company that manufactured the offending yoghurt..
Wahaha Nutrirional Express.

Wahaha!

Fancied fish for dinner so I have been throwing old yoghurts in the river hoping to haul out concussed fish but no luck so far; maybe if they don't explode I will get lucky and hit a fish on the head?

Of course not.

Six months, tops.

Tom
So you forget everything about them for months and then suddenly decide, ohmmm, what do we have here, wow, look, a 6 month old yoghurt!!
Can't understand why someone would put his/her health at risk.

I can do better than that, will conduct experiment next to DIL's parents swimming pool.... if there are signs of impending explosion I'll just push the experimental subject in; it'll save on mopping up later.
Husband says I have to keep one grandchild as a control.....

Anyone interested in 12 very out-of-date jogurts? It seems I bought a multi-pack and forgot about them!

Got a blank here- what was the name of the UK politician who fed his kids beef burgers at the time of mad cow disease (JacobKreuzfeld)? I think that was a lot more dangerous than out of date yogurt. Still Anjela, not sure I'd feed yogurt that much out of date of grand-kids or sil would never let them visit again. I was told off for having rice in the cupboard 2 months out of date (rice!)

Can't find a link now, but remember reading that Best eat by dates in CH are a whole week earlier than in the UK.

Probably a really silly idea, but the OP hasn't posted since early in the first page, at all.

Time to close the thread?

Pain being told off by people who are ignorant of the facts!
Quote "The European Union is poised to scrap compulsory “best before” labels on coffee, rice, dry pasta, hard cheeses, jams and pickles to help reduce the estimated 100 million tons of food wasted across Europe each year."

All of these foods remain usable for many years - consumers are smart enough to recognise quality changes if they should occur, for example, colour, smell, etc.

Closing this thread would be a crime.

There hasn't been as much useful info in one place since Nil told us to breathe air and drink water during hot weather. It's only because I took her advice so literally that I'm actually able to still be here today.

I honestly did find fourteen 2010 dated yogurts in my wine cellar (how else do you think I took that photo?), and I did eat one as it tasted fine.
I sorry to disappoint you but I believe those yoghurts were out of date on 22 October last year (2013) and not in 2010. The 10 on the label refers to the month not the year.
Your willingness to sacrifice yourself in the interests of research whilst still admirable is slightly less impressive when the yoghurts are 'only' 8 months past their use by date.
