Congrats!

Expert knowledge granted; opinion is another matter.

I've been prey to it myself; when those around me used the word 'dude' a lot, I found myself also using it, which no doubt annoyed everyone.

Not the only thing, I'm sure...

Happy New Year!
So Happy New Year to you too, dude!

My daughter starts every sentance with 'mum'. Now that is very annoying in a twenty minute conversation.
Depending on the age of said daughter, many sentences may begin with "But Mum...."

or its French equivalent ..., quoi"
Isn't the "oder" resp. "quoi" the German/French version of "innit"?

I dislike the implication of having to give an affirmative answer to whatever the "oder"-person says even if that's not their intent. Just leave the word out of the sentence already

Don't a lot of german sentences start with "Also" which is the English "So"?

I could easily be wrong, oder?
You can use many other words besides "Also" to start a sentence, so no, it shouldn't often be used to start a sentence if you want to show you're capable of writing/speaking German well.

Words like
1. folglich, demnach, demzufolge, infolgedessen, danach, ergo, somit, sonach, logischerweise, mithin, jedenfalls, demgemäss, dementsprechend, deshalb, insofern, darum, daher, dadurch, aufgrund dessen

and

2. schliesslich, endlich, zuletzt, kurz und gut, schlussendlich

can all be used to substitute "also".

Re: 'So' increasingly used as a sentence marker

I say "dude" (leftover from my IT years)
..and "so" and "like"
It's coloquial..

Where would I ever get a chance to use "ergo" ?

Happy New Year's y'all

Sometimes, but her dad lives a ways away and she often gets confused.

I do that too! I don't believe I've ever written, let alone used "ergo". Therefore, for sure.

Whatever.

I use but a lot when writing here. But, I usually don't proof my stuff carefully. So what.
