I went to Spain once. I found it hard to believe that they eat dinner and lunch so late, but after being there for one day. And seeing it. I believed it. I don't know what 12 years of random foreigners, stipulate people with a foreign, non local way of thinking, has anything to do with not being able to grasp the concept.

I mean 12 years! The waiter probably, which you do not realize, was on your side, and thought the kitchen could comply. It happens all the times, because when waiters here the foreign accents they automatically think tips, and will try to encourage the cook to do the order. However, my assumption is the waiter went back there, explained the situation and had a spatula thrown at him, or worse. Waiters always take the blunt of everything, and perhaps they could of done it different.

Don't know what you were thinking though. If a group of people in gastronomy, like it happens with us folks from time to time, ever showed up at that kind of time, we would all prepare the service that we only wanted to know the most simple things to make and not to stress the kitchen.

Kind of respect like that.

I'm sorry but you lost me in the highlighted bits.

If a waiter who represents the establishment tells me its no problem, then I that's what I believe, if he had told me that I must order before 2 pm then we would have made sure to do that, but he said no rush.

But you can't call it lunch ...... that is served at lunchtime - which is normally recognised as being between 12 and 2; outside of these times, you're in the realms of fast food - as has been suggested.

If you actually, once, didn't linger in bed on a weekend, and made it to a restaurant for 12.00, only to be told by the waiter, that the chef fancied a w/e lie-in, or has been shopping and will be in about 2 for the lunch service, you wouldn't complain, would you?

Yes you are right, lunchtime is defined as the middle of the day when lunch is taken and after 50 yrs on this planet I do know this, but my stomach on the other hand has a mind of its own especially if I had breakfast (heaven forbid) at 9 or 10 am....

I guess my point is / was that all these restaurants still provide food albeit in a simplified or "fast food" version and I wondered why they could do that i.e. a salad, sandwich or hamburger but not a lamb chop with vegetables. That's not a question anymore, it's been answered already.

Obviously I don't expect the chef to work out of his / her working hours, the solution if it is needed.... would be to either change his working hours or even better have another chef to do the "out of normal hours" shift.

Your thread title seems to suggest otherwise.

Are we back to the sheep thing again?
Sorry for living out of the box...or is that living like a box?

So tell me now, how do I turn on the emoticons? I can see them but when I click one it does not appear in the text, and yes the disable smilies box is not applied.

what about the discriminated against night shift workers who want to eat their dinner at 8am, why can't they get a salad, lasagne and a glass of wine when they want!
Trust me, when i finish night shifts the only thing i want is my bed! Dinner at those days is at 4am
