RE: fraud via anibis site

okay so this person (should I post name appearing on their e-mail?) whom I contacted via anibis reached a deal with me to give me their iphone 5 for CHF 275. they live quite far away so I paid and then waited for the phone to arrive by post. and waited...
they said the post got the wrong address and they were looking for them to redirect. I asked for my money back they said no problem. and i waited...
i am gonig to the police today and have already asked my bank to initiate a 'payment investigation case' whereby they ask for the money back...

Re: fraud via anibis site

Did the seller have enough feedbacks (as a seller) for you to trust the person? How long has it been?

Re: fraud via anibis site

Okay the seller actually had just signed up to Anibis. This is also from memory because i couldn't find their profile after as they had deregistered...

This was just 1/2 weeks ago...

Re: fraud via anibis site

Looks like you're new to this ebay-like online shopping thing. I'm afraid you've been scammed. Charge it to experience and be more careful next time.

Basic tips for online shopping (ebay-type)

Always look for feedbacks
Newly registered user as a private seller - red flag
Usually if the price is too low, it's too good to be true

These incidents are so frustrating.

This may not be free. Did you ask how much that will cost? Set a cost limit?

Re: fraud via anibis site

Have you done a google search on the email name you have?

It may (although, if a scammer, unlikely) appear on other selling sites, or FB.

If it does, you could at least warn that site's administrators.

THANKS

in fact it costs CHF 240 per hour! and they said it may take a couple of weeks

i am talking to them to close the investigation and make a formal complaint about them not informing me

--------

okay actually a 'payment investigation case' costs CHF 240 per hour but what they did for me is a 'recall to the funds' order which costs nothing - phew

Re: fraud via anibis site

Did your payment include a full name and address? If so send a registered letter asking the seller to either send you the phone as agreed or better yet, refund your money.

Any time you're purchasing something expensive/valuable like an iPhone from an unknown person it's a good idea to have all their details - name, address, phone, email. If they won't provide that info, I won't do business with them. Also request that any item be sent registered mail, so there's a way to track it.

1/2 weeks ago - meaning last week? Have you contacted Anibis to alert them to the possible fraud? Sure looks like fraud if the user has already de-registered.

Re: fraud via anibis site

The problem with anibis is that it doesn't have a user verification system like Ricardo where they actually send you a verification mail on your mailbox.

the person sent me a photo of what they say is their passport and this matched the name on the e-mail, so this gave me confidence to go ahead with the pruchase

anibis said that i can only go to the police and they will contact them to obtain the identity of the seller

i will send a letter to the provided address thanks for the idea

I am afraid you have been done. Put it down to (an expensive) experience.

Re: fraud via anibis site

And Anibis has a BIG pop-up that appears when you respond to an ad. It says that you should only deal face-to-face. They do that for a reason.

Re: fraud via anibis site

Don't post their email. Just make sure you've got all the details you can get, and contact the police. Also contact your insurance and see if they can do anything, but first, see what goes through the Police.

They shouldn't have trouble tracking him down, if they've got bank account details.

Don't be too quick to trust to Ricardo's screening processes. We were out 450 CHF on a piece of furniture delivered broken by a Ricardo seller, for which we were to pay to return, in the hope that, in another month we might receive a replacement. Refund refused, recourse to Ricardo customer "service" was a farce. Expensive lesson, but could have been worse.
