Where are the lines???

Why do most Swiss notebooks and pads of paper have squares and not lines?? Squares are not nice for writing on… squares are for maths… what does Switzerland have against lined/ruled paper??

Re: Where are the lines???

Everything that can be done on lines can be done in squares too, but by far not everything that can be done in squares can be done on lines too.

Every time I fly to the USA, I carry lots of pads with squared / cross-hatched / checked / checkered / chequered paper because they are difficult to come by over there, especially those with metric squares (4 or 5 mm), which make many things so much easier.

I call them my illegal pads.

Personally, i use unlined paper...my mum says there are two types in this world, those who make rules, and those who ignore them...

For your squared and lined requirements:

www.mcpaperland.ch/

You can find all kinds of notebooks - lines, millimeter, squares, plain.

Oh yes. Sometimes a sheet of paper and a pencil are 100 times faster than any computer.

And their batteries never run low.

Had the same problem sometime back, but I found the proper ones at Migros. Try the big stores.

Re: Where are the lines???

Office World may have some too.

Personally I stock up when I go back to the UK. If I can I get the big 150 page version which lasts me for years.

And yes Baboon, some of us do still write on paper. These pads get used for both my menu list for the week and also for the shopping list to make them with. And for jotting down items we want to get back in the UK on the next trip.

Yes, you may be able to do all that with a phone/tablet, etc, but it ain't much use when the battery goes flat. Give me paper and pen any day.

Don't know what kind of shops you have in Interlaken but here in Zürich I always used to have notebooks with lines. It's actually what we used to learn the "Schnürlischrift" in primary school

You can find writing pads at migros. I can only guess that there are other ones at Migros...Otherwise you could as well check a shop that stocks products for University students and High School students. Usually they have a good selection.

Ah but sometimes the paper runs out or has inconvenient squares marked on it

And while we're at it, what is it with this 4mm squared paper when everybody knows that the rest of the world uses 5mm.

Re: Where are the lines???

In Germany is the same thing. I once witnessed the other way around: a German desperately looking for a squared notebook while abroad.

Have you guys also noticed that Germans, Swiss and Austrian all like squared-pattern shirts a lot?

Re: Where are the lines???

And here i am, happy to be in a land where squared paper is the norm. But i haven't any checked shirts.

I use old envelopes, the back of old paper to write notes for shopping, etc.
