It wasn't that long ago that these places wouldn't even accept credit cards for payment.

I see no reason why they shouldn't or wouldn't return the broken piece. Could it be a misunderstanding? Upload a scan of their letter/mail?

I've never had problems getting broken things repaired or replaced here. The customer service people in MediaMarkt, Interdiscount and Steg have always been very nice and helpful.

This thread gives me cause for concern, I just returned a POS Lenovo Yoga to Digitec under warranty. Why did Digitec or their partner even try and open it? I assumed that they would send it on to the repair centre of the manufacturer, don't they invalidate your warranty if they attempt to fix it?

I'll post if I get any crap from them. My only other warranty issue with Digitec was not good, they initially refused a refund but eventually relented.

No credit card, they charge you more - of course.

I asked now a full refound - as the "general law" says. And, since they broke it, I refuse to accept their terms and conditions for normal repairs (= wait, wait and wait for months without getting any change to really get it back or be refound with a ridicolous price). It would cost me about 1000chf to get a similar laptop! For a damage I didn't cause. With the original problem fully covered under guarantee. That's really nerving.

I am at least trying to get it back and to take it to an official center in my own country (ratio: better communication, people I know etc), but they absolutely refuse to give it back to me! Is it illegal, isn't it?!

True I had HP laptop and Sony both had problems i tried the support HP without any issue sent me a new one Sony it was hell. I had to send the computer to France then Nothing, they could not figure out the problem. I wanted only a video driver from them and I could not download from their site.

Sonny is terrible and I for a year or so I have starting to get terrible service from Digitec also. Might be due to the Migros take over.

Best deal would be to get a new laptop from them. and avoid them. My last 3 orders from them I got Used things one even had a small damage but I could not bother replacing. Now I buy from Brack.ch

I returned an item to Digitec, and they had to order another one from overseas and could not say when it would arrive. I pushed hard for a refund and got it.

It looks like your problem was similar! What kind of refund did you get? Just the repair price?

They refer only to their repair center, which is Sertronics A, never to the official repair center of the manufacturer. So I suppose the kid there tried to open it the wrong why - initially they tried to make me pay for everything, like the original problem was not under guarantee. Luckily I asked for more explanation, and that was the picture I got...

Full price refund. They could not guarantee when i would receive the replacement item so I pushed them on this stating i needed the item and was prepared to buy an alternative. i think if they offer you a similar priced and specced new laptop take it.

Did you ever try returning anything to Brack? I did and it was very bad, I vowed never to use them again and I haven't. I know people curse about Fust and Interdiscount but at least you can go and shout at them and get what you want. For me personally, Digitec and Brack are no go zones.

Brack? Excellent.

I had a Logitech keyboard a while ago; one of the keys broke off. I took it back and it was replaced on the spot - no discussion.

I purchased a cover with a pop-out backlight for a Sony E-reader last year (as a gift, ordered online), but the recipient of the gift could not get the backlight to work (neither could we). A few weeks later, I took it back to Brack and that they sent off for repair as they had no more in stock. A couple of days later, I had to write them an Email sheepishly stating that we had actually bought it from Digitec. No worries, they said, it's with the supplier now. A week or so later the repaired item was sent back to us by A-Post (it works now) and with NO CHARGE!

Felt like sending the chap a bottle of wine.

As a long-time Digitec customer I've had cases when i needed to return things and this was done quickly, efficiently and with min. hassle. Just saying because even if this case is true (which we know only one side of the story) Digitec still remains the best place to purchase tech stuff. btw, I've had the opposite case as well, purchasing desktop speakers they actually handed me a huge box and at our place i discovered there were two sets. I returned one set and the guys immediately credited me with a discount on my next purchase.

I think the discussion about who-did-what can go on forever. It all goes down to the person(s) you talk to. I know we as customers expect those stores to behave consistently (and nicely!) regardless of the individual we are talking to but still we cannot ignore the fact that as any employee does, there are those who sympathize with us as customer, as those who don't. There are those who do their job with passion and those that don't. So saying Digitec did this and Brack did that is not going to help anyone in his/her choice of a tech shop to buy from.

My 2 cents.
