Oh no, the grass warriors are getting ready...

... I can hear them already, for about the third time in the past 5 days...

The sound of lawn mowers...as if grass needs to be cut 2x a week... worse even, the ground is still soaked with water from the previous rainfalls, and people still go mow down that grass, even if it leaves lawn mower mud tracks, ruining the grass.

If there is something I hate on a sunny day, it is the sound of lawn mowers and wherever I go in this country, everybody has one, even if they have a 8m2 garden.

Can anyone here suggest me a nice way of explaining these people that grass does not need to be cut several times a week without offending them?

Re: Oh no, the grass warriors are getting ready...

I see the problem differently. I don't believe you are hearing one lawn being cut every day, you are annoyed by 7 lawns being cut once each week.

In my experience here, people do not take kindly to friendly advice, but they do respect rules. Maybe you could start a referendum stating that grass may only be cut on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Then at least we will have some peace on 4 days each week.

Sadly you're wrong and they're right. At this time of year it needs a very high cut to remove the early growth, then progressively lower ones over the course of the next couple of weeks. When it's wet and sunny the top surface can dry out remarkably quickly, enabling mowing to take place without damage, and it really will grow fast.

Once the summer's established once a week should be sufficient unless it's wetter than normal, but twice is better.

The answer is to remain indoors except on Sundays, or just learn to live with it ;-}

well, the problem is that it is not just at this time of the year, but it goes until snowfall again until around next December... also, when I look down, i see mud tracks and no grass.

Also, I understand that grass grows quick, but it needs at least twice a week of mowing by the same person? Do this multiplied by several dozen people, so you never have piece. On another note, the gardens of all these people that do this looks absolutely horrible... When I go walk my dog I note that the nicest looking grass, like Golf course style, are the few people that actually mow their grass once every 2-3 weeks or so...

strange, but then again, I never had a green thumb and one of the disadvantages of this country I guess is that we just all sit too much on top of each other.

Grass is like hair - the more frequently it's cut, the quicker it grows .......... the more often it needs cutting.

so with other words, they do not really know what they are doing, but they feel it is a nice thing to do on a sunny day and what really happens is that they just pollute the environment even more (the grass mowers they use here are fuel driven), and they also add unnecessary annoying noise to the community, thus reducing quality of life...

...great. They are lucky I am not 10 years younger as I would have sabotaged the crap out of those grass mowers as they stay in the garage, always leaving fuel and oil marks on the ground, making the whole place smell like fuel, but then again, fuel doesn't smell as bad as constantly cut grass...

what does this have to do with being a 1st world problem? Might elaborate on it a bit?

first of all, this is the complaint corner...

before you give others comments without supporting them if asked, and then telling them to watch the news without apparently having watched the title of this topic forum section himself, how about next time not post such a comment at all?

Re: Oh no, the grass warriors are getting ready...

As I was out today with the evil petrol mower attacking a rather steep slope that was previously a field in need of some TLC, those that have an issue can cover their sensitive bits. Electric mower is not strong enough to get through the clumps of heavy grass.
I have the same reaction to certain other noises but that's my problem. I have ear defenders pimped with dalmation fleece material.

Tell them to go back to their own countries, as real Swiss mow their lawns several times a year, not several times a week.

I checked my lawn - the dog is still visible when it walks on it, so it doesn't need cutting.

(Seriously - unless you are looking for make a bowling green and you are a "little England" about it, the first cut isn't needed quite yet. We still have frosts!)
