Switching mobile contract from Orange to UPC Cablecom

I have recently switched my mobile phone contract from Organe to UPC Cablecom. To be precise my contract with Orange was expiring in a few weeks and I called UPC to order a new contract while keeping the existing mobile number.

While making the order with UPC over the phone I have requested them to switch my phone number only as after the date when my current contract with Orange expires.
The sales person assured me that this will be done and that there will be no extra charges. I recall the sales person confirming this since I asked him at least twice just to be sure.

I received the new contract over the hpone and also got my new sim card. All seemed to work well.

However, few days ago I received the final bill from Orange that includes a 500 CHF early termination fee. According to Orange this is their standard policy to charge this amount even if the contract is terminated only one day in advance (I had a two year contract with Orange that was expiring).

UPC did not wait until my contract expired and switched the mobile services immediately. I have sent their customer service several emails regarding this, but did not get any response from them for well over a week.

Are there any other alternatives I could try? It seems a completelly redicolous situation. Orange do not care because I am no longer their customer and UPC does not respond to my query at all.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I suppose you signed something with cablecom because they cannot terminate your contract with orange without your autorisation. Then on that paper there should be something like the termination/transfer date.

You are going to quickly learn that to trust a company to do what their sales people promise is going to quickly lead to problems. Hope you can fix the issues. But generally the companies your talking about are not that friendly. Hope you can find that paper. But since you are moving your number it will be done as
their earliest convince and not yours. By asking the number to be moved, thats is the the beginning. Sadly for you orange obliged and allowed the port to go through before the end of contract. In hind sight you should have not asked UPC to move your number until you were clear of your contract.
