Being from the midwest has nothing to do with this and nor does it being a women. I just don't understand being aggressive in this situation for no reason at all-other than being a jerk. Just wanted to know if this is a "normal" that I need to get use to here in Switzerland.

In short, NO, it is NOT normal anywhere, but it happens. I only find it strange that you pay so much attention to a psychotic person

Really - not worried about it. I think my question has gotten lost: Is aggressive driving more of a normal here. I seem to see more 'rear bumper drivers' than what I am use to.

Reality is that drivers in Central/Western Europe like Switzerland and Germany tend to lack tolerance and are to ignore distance

Driving North of the Taunus line (100 kms north of Frankfurt/Main) is far more aggressive than south of that line.

I have been driving for a long time- never had a ticket in my life. Not a slow drive nor am I an aggressive drive. I am a good driver. Being new to Switzerland, was just asking if driving habits are different here. Obviously, seems that comments that are not all that are helpful are allowed. Appreciate the ones that are helpful in learning the ways here and adjusting.

Different from what ?? In German speaking Switzerland comparable to Southern Germany, Elsass/Alsace, Western Austria, in French speaking Switzerland comparable to Burgundy, Savoy, and in the Ticino comparable to Lombardia and Piemonte

Simple question since I didn't learn here, but are drivers taught about minimum stopping distances, keeping an appropriate distance at lights etc.. Or is it taught, but people just ignore it once they've passed?

If you you are from the mid-west, you will find divers here aggressive.

If you are form the north-east, you won't.

And if you are from Italy, you'll be wondering if all the drivers here are from the mid-west.

Tom

I on Holidays admired the active but very tolerant driving of the New Yorkers, clearly the best drivers in the world. The most inventive ones of course are the Cairenes, who out of originally two lanes create for lanes, and at Speed 85 km/h talk with each others

this is just nonsense.
I find Swiss and German drivers actually very tolerant but perhaps I'm used to a different standard.

Re: Why such aggressive drivers?

What really gets my goat is:

1. People who brake in every curve, no matter how slight it is.
2. People who drive 70 when the speed limit is 80
3. Tractors
4. People who slow down while passing by a brothel.

I've asked this question before, by why is your goat driving at all?

And do you speak fluent goatesque or can he/she bleat in Swiss German?

I usually fully stop at the number 4. Now I don't know, is this a sign of good or bad driving?

btw. I found drivers here quite ok. In my opinion driving culture is always little bit different between countries but usually normal person can adapt quite fast. I mean, in Italy everything will be a little faster, maybe even more chaotic but drivers will be also very nice and ready to predict your mistakes.
Here, probably too many people are driving for too long on a left lane, but soon I learned that with all the traffic and radars on highway it doesn't matter. Anyway I wouldn't be driving much faster.

I hate to sound so incredibly nave, but what does a brothel look like from the road? (I'm assuming this is something more than a city-centre 'exotic' nightclub since you're out in the sticks). Can you point to something on google maps?

They're just scanning the parking lot for their husband's car....

Or it's me, yelling "Hoi, bobbi!" at a complete stranger...

usually have some red lights strips lining the roof and stuff like that. discreet, they look like hotels to the naive tourists sometimes.

Run into the back of someone and it's your fault regardless of the actions of the car in front.

That's what you actually said and i said, it is not always correct and gave reasons why it is not always correct, yet you say this is not true; you are mistaken Sir !
