Re: Exit Cleaning costs....HOW MUCH !!!???

Not always. The first place we moved into on arrival in Basel had several inches of dust on top of the wardrobes. The owner was Swiss and a chancer.

Sure the Swiss are ultra anal about cleaning, but you move into a clean apartment, ready for living.

Re: Exit Cleaning costs....HOW MUCH !!!???

At the risk of sounding like a cracked record, saying this for the umpteenth time, Basel rules are different.
'Besenrein', the usual Basel term I believe, is 'broom clean' and any Swiss knows that you don't clean the top of a wardrobe with a broom. So they didn't.

In the Besenrein places I've stayed there's been a fixed cleaning cost as part of the contract too. I wouldn't sweep the top of the cabinets, but somebody should.

Re: Exit Cleaning costs....HOW MUCH !!!???

The "Besenrein" part means you leave it basically clean and pay a "Pauschal" - SFr500 when we moved out our last place in Basel - to fund the cost of having the place cleaned.

However, the place is supposed to be properly cleaned by the time new tenants move in.

In terms of cracked records, I'd say you're one of those K-tel efforts you could only ever buy via mail order.

Re: Exit Cleaning costs....HOW MUCH !!!???

No we didn't. When we moved out he sent his minion to do rhe handover. I got said minion to sign a piece of paper stating, "I the undersigned hereby find the property in good order and can see no reason preventing full refund of the tenant's deposit". A week later we enquired about the whereabouts of our money - and they of course tried to say the apartment had not been inspected upon which I faxed the signed paper.

Our money was repaid in full the next day.

For a number of reasons I won't go into here they were a bunch of fly-by-nights who deserved all they got.

Cheers,
Nick

we paid about 1/3 month's rent for a professional cleaning of our home when we left Switzerland. considering that the deposit was 2x a month's rent and the handover went swimmingly, it seemed like money well spent at the time and still does.

when we moved into our home in Luxembourg, the first thing we did was comment that we wished every country insisted upon the same standards as Switzerland when it came to rental properties. we moved into a 30 year old home in Switzerland that looked less than 5 years old, and we moved into a 5 year old home in Luxembourg that looks 30 years old.

Same experience here, I have moved 14 times since 97 and lived in Canada, Norway, France, UK and Singapore before Switzerland. Everywhere else I've had to do some cleaning while moving in. It ranged from the "a bit dusty after being empty for a while" to "yuk! disgusting!". In all cases we had no chance to clean before moving in because of time/logistical constraints. And most of them were nice places, not student dumps, and 2 were flats we had bought.

We're in our second flat in Zürich, and both times I only needed to focus on emptying boxes and finding where the furniture would go. Money well spent IMHO, and as the sole person in the family ever involved with moving logistics I would definitely pay rather than do the final cleaning myself. Can't be a two places at the same time anyway, can I?

But, that said, I would get 1-2 competing offers, as the price you quote seems steep. We paid a bit over 2000 CHF for the final cleaning of a 180 m2, 6 rooms flat a year ago, we passed the final inspection without any issues.
