Extra logistics charges expensive custom fees

This is maybe not so much a complaint, but just wanted to share my new knownledge about costs to import stuff into Switzerland.

So I bought a AV-equipment which I couldn't find here, imported it from Belgium for 725 EURO. Even though I ended up paying 250 CHF in custom fees I still got a sweet deal. But I was a bit concerned about the extra fees from Extra.ch....

Fees that I anticipated(these fees were listed separately by the Swiss custom):

Mwst(8%): 64.15 CHF
Customs acknowledgment(zoll): 46.40 CHF

These fees I also anticipated but not to be almost 190CHF... I have translated the receipt with google-translate...

Swiss import clearance: 75
Cash on delivery: 25
E-Dec fee: 10
VAT clearance(EHD): 10
Disbursement fee taxes: 10
Disbursement fee custom: 10
Tax on receipt: 46:60

So since I still got a sweet deal I don't want to complain but I must admit that I will think twice to import stuff again into Switzerland. Just wanted to share my new knowledge and hopefully I haven't posted in the wrong forum..

The charges do seem to be very high, but there isn't much you can do about them. This month in the magazine Beobachter is an article about mail order charges.

Re: Extra logistics charges expensive custom fees

Custom clearance fees will depend greatly on the company doing the delivery. So far I've had two imports that were taxed, both handled by DHL, and both very reasonably priced, even cheaper than the Post advertised fees.

In any case, your mileage will vary greatly depending on the service...

As you said, according to the book and not unusual or unexpected.

Lets look at the other charges.

Swiss import clearance: 75
Pretty steep: Swiss Post would be 16 (Belgium) + ~22 (3% of 725 Euro) and is capped at CHF 70.

Cash on delivery: 25
Nicer companies send you a bill.

E-Dec fee: 10
VAT clearance(EHD): 10
Disbursement fee taxes: 10
Disbursement fee custom: 10
Those four charges would be included in the Swiss Post Clearance Fee, may be an addition al CHF 13 if the papers where unclear.

Tax on receipt: 46:60
Tax/MWSt on all of the above fees is 11.20. What is going on here???

All in all pretty expensive and additionaly unclear. Mind to name the delivery company?

Yes that's why I wanted to "warn" about www.extra.ch, GLS-Belgium choosed them. As you said I have also had very good experience with DHL.

With post.ch I had to pay 91 SFR upfront and was not warned about it either, didn't accept 100 bills, had to be exact amount.. I really had to dig DEEP into my coin jar to get my package :-) Amazingly she was not concerned at all that I took my fair time to get the 91 SFR!!

GLS-Belgium used www.extra.ch. I get the feeling that they wanted to charge me 250 CHF regardless of whatever, seems to be a kinda perfect evened out amount so to say. But as Sbrinz said in the first response, it will be a total waste of time to contact them about their fees.
