Smartphones at concerts. JUST STOP IT !!!!

To all you losers, young and old at the One Republic concert last night, slavishly caputuring every moment on your smartphone I give you the big two finger salute. You are pathetic which is Ok by me but were you blocking my view and ruining my evening. What are you going to do with that dark, fuzzy clip with that distorted sound? Are you going to watch it later? Download it on You Tube like the other 20 million losers like yourself, put it on Facebook to show your friends how cool you were, when in fact, you are just a tosser. GROW UP, KEEP YOUR F*&N SMARTPHONE IN YOUR PANTS AND ENJOY THE MOMENT

Eh, I just thought that was the modern day equivalent of holding your cigarette lighter up.

Then again I haven't been to a concert in over 12 years now, so what do I know.

There was a lot of waving of the smartphone with the light on in the seating area, thats fine, but trying to capture every single moment for later is just sad, and as I said before, mr and mr smartphone user, you are a loser who cant live in the moment and thats fine by me but you are blocking my view

Maybe I am just getting old

it also ruins your enjoyment and, frankly, it comes out shit. Buy the official video when it comes out (or view on YouTube, steal it via torrent, etc).

Apparently, there's a lighter flame app. you can download and wave your phone about over your head, without igniting the hairsprayed barnet of the tart in front.

Just looked on the App Store ..... Concert Buddy

Hold on just a second. You were at a One Republic concert and don't consider yourself to be a loser? I'm afraid that by geographical definition you have already made your social status perfectly clear. Loser.

I think that one finger is sufficient in this case.

next time go to One Direction instead.
You'll still see the smartphones but at least you are surrounded by young girls

Re: Smartphones at concerts. JUST STOP IT !!!!

I wasn't at the One Republic concert (whoever they are) but I do admit to being one of the annoying people at concerts occasionally. I agree that it is an annoying habit and usually a complete waste of time. If I do take photos, I try to be as discreet and considerate to others as possible.

If it weren't for people with smartphones, how would we get to see classic moments like this?

Good call: there's no such band as "One Republic" (ok, maybe there's a pub band somewhere). There is a band called OneRepublic and their fans get really pissed off when people get the name wrong...

If it was a good call on my part it was completely accidental. I didn't know it was wrong

Re: Smartphones at concerts. JUST STOP IT !!!!

Everything changes, so when I was invited to the Mark Knopfler concert in the Hallenstadium at the beginning of June I had no doubt that things would be different from the last time I went to a concert, which was, believe it or not, as far as I remember, Chris Barber's Jazz Band. About 30 years ago.
The row directly in front of me was, as is this subject, permanently filled with the lights of screens and trembling-arm-length-held 'phones. Not only that but the loudspeakers were turned up so loud I couldn't hear the music. The belief that no matter how well or badly the evening has turned out, does, as I have also seen, always lead to a standing ovation - something which many years ago got a special mention in the newspaper the following morning if a really super perfomance had somewhere been executed. It wouldn't be fair to say that I hadn't enjoyed the evening, there was so much new to be seen for me, in this brave new world, but when I got home I went to You Tube just to see if it really had been Mark Knopfler (as I otherwise know him) standing on the stage in the centre of all that noise.
The maximum legal size for loudspeakers should be one easily covered by a tea caddy.

You should see the positive side: it could have been worse, as they didn't hold full-sized iPads over their heads to film it ;-)

Or selfie sticks
I don't know what's worse: the sticks or the countless poor souls shoving them in your face next to every tourist attraction to make a sale on them.

Recently re-visited Rome after 25 years and I don't remember anybody having a selfie-stick back then... nor the streets being full of what looks like Indian or Tamil guys selling the things...

had the same issue in Rome last year (tamils BTW)... then it started to rain and all of a sudden all of them were running around with umbrellas... annoying as f*** but i'll give them credit for being prepared and switching their products so fast based on the weather

Didn't find them too annoying, TBH. If you said no, you didn't need a selfie-stick (or just shook your head), they turned to the next... customer.
They just want to make a living, after all.
And unlike the pick-pockets, they don't just rob you.
