PSA For the Public Transport Users

Hello everybody!

The weather is nice and warm outside and everybody seems to have a good time this time of the year. People like going out and soak in as much sunlight as they can. These are all nice things to do at this time of the year. But can we all please take a shower at least once a day and put some deodorant on?

I think taking a shower is refreshing in a hot weather! Plus, people won't look at you when you let your armpits feel the air when you grab the handrails in the tram/bus! The strong, musky smell isn't really sexy.

Now let's all go out and take advantage of the hot weather with a bit of social etiquette and let everybody enjoy the air!

My "I hate sharing space with other people"-side agrees with you

BUT

My "soft and cuddly, PC, everyone is equal"-side acknowledges that for some people the odour they emit is hard/impossible to control due to suffering from a medical condition.

Yeah, but most of them have feet.

I don't drive, but if the only option is an un-air-conditioned bus, then I'll walk.

Air-conditioned buses, on the other hand, are a whole different proposition. I've been known to completely ignore my stop and stay on the bus to the end of the line to enjoy a rare half hour of hot-weather comfort. The walk back again is a bugger, though.

Of course if your work is close enough plus the benefits are rewarding. A healthy mind, healthy body connection is the key to a much happier life. Well done Sir.

I'm with the OP on this, that's why I become even more unsociable in the summer and try to avoid people in (the) heat.

I do not enjoy eau d'armpit. At all.

Non airconditioned buses!

This is just fu.. with clients! They let the buses without air conditioning on the streets in this weather! Does anyone know where can we complain about this?? It is a hellish ride for my pregnant wife nowadays while the drivers enjoy their fans! :/ This happens frequently on 705 route EPFL - Lonay route but also metro is freaking hell on wheels these days :/ And you pay 5 CHF for a ride!

Re: Non airconditioned buses!

I guess they have two options:

- increase the prices massively so they can upgrade their fleet to all aircon

- don't use the non-aircon buses, then all the others would be even fuller, negating any aircon advantage

Since you seem unhappy about both the price and the lack of aircon there doesn't seem to be a viable solution.

I think the last time we had a run of weather like this in Switzerland was back in 2003. For the vast majority of the time air con is simply not needed, so it doesn't make financial sense to equip all public transport with it. It can be bloody uncomfortable, but fortunately the weather typically doesn't stay like this for very long.

Anyway you'll have a bit of respite after today as the temperatures are going to drop to a far more acceptable level.

Re: PSA For the Public Transport Users

A reasonable request would be for people not to board buses or indeed any other form of transport (except taxis maybe) whilst wearing vests. I've just had an armful of underarm hair exhibited to me almost in close-up on my way home. We don't need this life-off-putting-sight in the slightest. Add tattoos to the picture and one is faced with a sickening and really not-pretty eyesore. Nor do we need our transport cabins smelling of chemical flowers and artificial roses. A shower does the trick in most cases and is much healthier than blocking off the skin with stuff out of a factory.
