Price levels....

I know there have been many threads discussing price levels already... but this one is quite insane. Just got an e-mail with a link to the new SBB mobility car rental site (http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/reisemarkt/ser...ive_preise.htm)

They charge CHF 45 for 3 hours in the cheapest category. I was in Austria over the last weekend and rented a car from Sixt at the airport - their tariff on weekdays is EUR 10 per day - so the price for a full 24h in Austria is about the same as one hour in CH.... sure, poor SBB needs to charge this modest 2000% price premium to offset higher cost.

Re: Price levels....

It's considerably cheaper if you're a member of Mobility though, depends how much you use it I guess.

Re: Price levels....

Yes, car sharing is a totally different deal than car rental. The idea is to provide for somebody who needs a car a couple of times a week but doesn't want to put up with all the hassle of owning one.

The main thing is that it includes insurance. So when you see that 10€ price on a normal rental car, it only works if you carry your own car insurance. Those of us who are lucky enough to not own a car don't carry car insurance.

If I rent a car I have to pay the day rate for the rental agency's insurance which is usually at least 50 Chf. Therefore the Mobility rental which includes insurance is much much cheaper.
