Re: Trains. People. Bastards.

They'll be the same people who once arrived at their destination station wait until people are boarding to then get off the train.

Once they are finally at the airport they'll queue for checkin in the wrong line, they'll then take 20 minutes to answer questions on whether they packed the luggage themselves (thinking "no, I let the wife do it" would garner a smile), are carrying explosives in checked luggage or anything sharp in their hand luggage (and "the wife's tongue" again won't amuse anyone).

All checked in, often 3 hours before their flight they'll get a coffee, usually taking a take for 6 by using the spare seats as a way of isolating their delicate posessions from the floor.

With 90 minutes to go they'll head to security where they'll have forgotten all the rules with regards to fluids, clear plastic bags, belts, metal, laptops, iPads etc. But its alright because noone else might be in a hurry or need to fly anywhere at any point that day.

Once through security they'll amble (abreast) through duty free causing the hord of delayed passengers to scamble down the speciality Gin or Bourbon aisles in order to get to the escalators to passport control before they block them with their hand luggage.

Finally they'll get to passport control, with the riotous crowd behind them baying for blood, and spend 15 minutes trying to figure out who has the passports and boarding cards, and into which pocket or bag they put them and follow it all up with a comment to passport control about "how impatient everyone is", with the passport control officer rolling his eyes at the long line of business travellers who have managed checkin to passport control in less time that it takes Deirdrie to ask Derek whether they double bolted the back door.

And finally the gate, and at the first sign of life emenating from the gate Derek and Deirdrie leap into action arranging their hand luggage across all entry points to the gate in absolute confidence that no one else will beat them to their already allocated seats. Deirdrie will spend 20 minutes tutting that this was all so much quicker the last time they flew and how they can't believe it takes 3 hours to get through the airport and next year they should stay home.

Boarding starts and they rush to hand their passes over while pulling all their hand luggage together only to be told they haven't had their passes stamped by arrival immigration control, nor are they business or first class passengers, nor are they disabled, nor travelling with children, nor frequent flyers.

So they are sent back to the end of the line where they have their passes stamped and they join the 20 minute shuffle to the gate. Once boarded the overhead bin space is take and they are left to arrange their numerous bags under the seat in front.

As the plane taxis and then lifts into the skies the passengers around are serrenaded to sleep by "yes dears" from Derek and "We'll need to allow a lot more time next time, it was all so rushed and we had nowhere to put our bags" from Deirdrie

It's all your fault, you have no right to commute to work that late
Poor tourists are stressed enough already without needing to deal with you

This is a good point as CH-land is now so expensive, the tourists should be greeted by a Swiss red carpet ( including white cross ) and not your grumpiness.

It's actually the middle-aged/elderly Swiss who are the worst culprits; the tourists are waiting patiently as they should.

Of course the flip side to this is what I often encounter on any given morning.

Wait patiently until people stop filing out of the train door
Wait a couple of seconds and quickly check through the windows to see if anybody else is moving towards the door
Move to board train.
Get just inside train and come face to face with a laggard who couldn't be arsed to get up and leave the train at the same time as all the others.

Surely, the laws of gravity dictate, that those coming down the steps have more barging force, than those trying to climb up with baggage .... send 'em sprawling is what I say.

Re: Trains. People. Bastards.

I would put on my best Swiss accent and say "Grüzi Mit'nand, Ihre Billette bitte", taking all the time in the world to inspect their tickets while blocking both people leaving and entetering the train and finally saying as slowly as as I can that its verboten to use this door with this type of ticket. They'll have to walk down the platform and use the next door and walk back inside the train.

Re: Trains. People. Bastards.

They should write it on your welcome letter when you register at the Gemeinde.

Swiss people have this religious need to enter before anybody else to sit on a 4 seat place by themselves. They crave for this.

The worse of them all are ladies in their 40's... they don't care if you are pregnant, missing a leg, up to your head with bags, bleeding, having a heart attack or have 100 years, they will still run, x-ray scan the entire train/tram in 0.025 seconds, get a sit and immediately stare the person inf front of them.

Interesting, I never had the bollocks to ask for IDs or Passport. But, I had the impression that the ones doing this are not Swiss.

You still havent noticed what this thread is all about? Just one of the many all-people-do-this-but-lets-blame-it-on-one-group-of-people discussions, which are oh so common on english forum...

It's actually ageist; the younger generation tend not to do it as much.

And the middle-aged Englishman like me who is on the train faster than a frisky whippet before anyone gets off.

They also tend to do their weekly shopping on Saturday morning, while they have all the rest of the week to do it, and travel only during rush hour. I know them well!

Alway be wary of the frail little granny, who suddenly turns into a running harpy as soon as the bus/train doors open, ready to stample over anybody or anything standing in her way toward the only free seat available!
