How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

One of my neighbors is playing loud music in his backyard and singing with around 10+ people. No doubt they will continue until 3am or 4am.
In every cool night they do the same thing.

I wonder that will the Geneva police deal with such noise nuisance case and will they charge for the call out(I read that police charge 400CHF for one call out in another thead)?

TY for reply.

Have you the address of where the party is? Can we all go? I've got a string bag and a sixpack somewhere - I could bring a bottle of Bacardi in case there are women.

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

For another time invest in and partake of some natural 'herbal' sleep remedy.

It worked for me ..... I slept through the majority (at least 75%) of a 6.6 earthquake, where the epicentre was only about 5 miles away. It was only when the car alarms were competing with the banging and thumping that I eventually awoke, to enjoy about the last 10 or so seconds.

I actually felt disappointed and cheated, that I'd missed the opportunity of running around naked in the middle of the night, like a headless chicken. Although several of the aftershocks did compensate a bit.

If they're unreasonably loud, you can call the police and tell them the situation, especially if it's happening often. If you think they're too drunk to approach, it's not a great idea to go by and complain, best call the police.

You can also go by, bright and early Sunday morning, ring their doorbell and ask them to keep it down to a reasonable level even on Saturday night since everyone is sleeping with open windows on the cool nights.

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

Going by bright and early on a Sunday morning is just nasty!!

But also shows that you were not really disturbed and kept up all night by their renditions of Johnny Hallliday!!

Where i used to live, most of the neighbours were invited anyway. And the music was turned down a smidgeon around midnight.

Perhaps the OP wasn't invited.

I live in a rather densely populated area. Our back terrace feeds into three back yards, and the other sides feed into apartments. If anyone invited all the neighbours, I'm certain everyone wouldn't fit in any one house.

it's also inconsiderate when living in close quarters not to take into account that some people need to wake up early or just need to sleep early. Most city bylaws require quiet between noon and one, in the evening and at night, so it's not ridiculous to require neighbours to be considerate of others.

Some people are sick, some people have children (not surprising given the krippe just across the street, and some people wake up early to go to church and yet more people provide essential services and go to work on Sundays.

... So yelling/singing loudly enough to keep neighbours up is generally considered antisocial behaviour... especially in a country where air conditioning is uncommon in homes and windows must be kept open at night. If you don't know your neighbours yet, it's generally not a good idea to set up an introduction when they're drunk.

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

In general the Swiss don't want noise after ten O'clock at night. That's a sort of acknowledged agreement as to what is decent. What suits the majority wins no matter how difficult that is to understand. There isn't really a 'party' culture here where people think that getting pissed and making a bloody racket is acceptable. For those who want to 'party' there are opportunities on hand - for instance a Waldhütte party is a good idea to protect your neighbours right to peace at night, although the animal nightlife won't be pleased. I live in Kloten where we are thankful for the ban on nightflights and are also pleased when all those (and I don't mean all) raucous Ice-hockey fans have at last got home. Odd that chuch bells disturb so many people whereas some boyband sluggung out a din apparently is acceptable for the neighbours to put up with.

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

How do you know his neighbours were drunk? the OP only mentioned loud music and singing.

they may just have been celebrating the fact that the temperature dropped 10 degrees yesterday. Like a lot of people were doing. And enjoying while it lasts.

Also, people can party and sing without drinking alcohol...

I wonder that will the Geneva police deal with such noise nuisance case [snipped]
I know Geneva like the back of my hand and I can tell you that they'll only intervene if several (5+ ?) tenants call the police on a noisy neighbor (at the same time).

If only one person calls them about a noise complaint, they won't do anything, they'll flag it as another "querelles de voisinage". At best they'll tell you to go and ask your neighbor to be more quite...

The already overstretched Geneva cantonal and municipal Police have more important things to do such as crackdown on drug dealers in Pâquis, Plainpalais ... (mostly by rejected asylum seekers and other illegal aliens), going after cars / motorcycles thieves; plus they regularly assist the understaffed federal border guards (gardes-frontière) enforcing the very porous border to prevent cross-border crime from neighboring France: Annemasse-Ambilly-Gaillard + bandes de Lyonnais.

You can always try to call the cops, but please don't expect wonders. A friend of my cousin once called the Geneva police after getting into a violent row with her boyfriend and she was told to call "la main tendue" or "SOS femmes" if things get really bad.

Be happy that you live in Geneva,a very pleasant and wealthy canton to live and work in... despite the noise

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

The neghbours were yelling, screaming, and singing until 9AM today.

However, this was in Italy, at a motorcycle meeting, so par for the course.

Exactly, wait until 23:01 then call the police

(Or "What would the Swiss do?")

I live in a Dutch speaking household and in our opinion, Kloten is just balls.

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

Where's the OP?

Perhaps he's sleeping off the raucous evening he spent bonding with his neighbours who normally look like boring old farts!!

It can amaze how the "Swiss" are actually quite fun people!! Just watch out when they start trying to sing Hotel California... or a bit of ACDC (air guitar).

I was asked once to supply some spoons - the guy could play the spoons like nobody's business. All in good fun. That is how you get to know people.

OK, not every night. But, Geneva on a Saturday night at 11pm why not?

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

Things could get better for the OP. Sooner or later there might be a bit of rain and then they won't be out there singing. On the other hand things could get worse next Saturday and they might be singing and letting off fireworks .

There was a little bit of rain in Geneva this evening.

I canny wait for the fireworks - on the First and then the biggest bang on the 8th.... bestest!!!

Sorry for the animal lovers, i am one. But those fireworks just make me happy.

It is a great show. Up there with Sydney Harbour in wonderfulness

Re: How to deal with noisy party from neighbors?

Did anyone watch Temps Present on TSR last night?

All about neighbours from hell!! Some of those poor people have been attacked etc. for years. And they were all Swiss people. No foreigners.

Slightly frightening..
