...Granted there were a lot of welcome posts but if that were a crime the likes of Sobeit ET Al who habitually welcome newbies would have been banned long ago.
Thankfully Ace1 became a mod at the same time I did...so he didn't get the chance to ban me for being nice to newbies...although he still threatens.

Hi , again, every one who reacted on this thread.
I couldn't reply yesterday because - my "daily quota" was reached?

So because I can't reply individually to each person (because of the daily quota - I need to read what that is and how many messages I can sent per day)

So here a general reply

So there is a daily limitation to chat with / reply to / members...
Lord all mighty...

That's why I prefer to talk in person, there is no need to "defend" or 'justify' yourself online. With me, what you see is what you get, I don't do hidden agenda's and I'm not gonna tell again that my welcome messages were genuine. What the F is that all about?!? Seriously? Maybe some people are part of that 1 % (not spammers) ...think about that

I'm not selling anything, I'm not a drama queen, and I'm not Vegan.
I don't like to put a label on myself. I'm interested in eating food that is free from meat & dairy - whenever possible.
The statement that Vegans cause trouble -or something like that- is plain stupid - in my humble opinion.

deep sigh...djeezus lads....

Are there actually real life meetings held in public with people / members of this forum?
I hope so, because that is -seemingly - the only real way to talk to people without getting one's head bitten off / unfairly judged.

Alright.

So, someone asked me about living in an eco cabin in Ireland.
I would love to talk about this, but then again, is this the right Thread / section / area /forum? to do this?

Don't get too upset. The brand of humour that runs around here is irreverent

Welcome to EF and CH

Well from your posts it is clear that you know very little about this forum. It is also clear that the more you learn about this forum so the less you like it and the associated rules.
So why so enthusiastic to welcome new members?

Should someone explain 'multi-quoting' (replying to many in one post)?

..... and as for vegans causing trouble, just search out posts by @veganchef (if they still exist). There are others

A Sassenach is what the Scots call an English person!! Not the other way round... that would be Feinian.

Anyway, I am feeling a bit fluffy too. It has been three nice cool days i haven't checked my legs for hairiness. And i don't care.

My mistake, I used the wrong spelling - Sasanaigh is the Irish.

I actually reported the OP.
When I logged in, I saw like 8 replies to introduction threads in a row in the new post section.
In 999 out of a 1000 cases, this is a spammer.
I report shit as well: If someone posts a link as a first post or rants on and on about a certain product as a first post etc., I report. In 90% of cases the stuff I report is deleted shortly after - hence it is mostly spam.
I didn't report OP because she wasn't advertising for something or rambling about a product.

OP: If posters on EF didn't keep their eyes open for spam, we'd be drowning in bullshit posts. Of course there is a limit to the number of posts one can write - we don't want certain posts and posters to dominate the forum, rather for everyone to be able to contribute. An EF search would give you more info on daily/weekly caps.

You're looking for vegan stuff on another thread. From your other post alone one could deduce that you're indeed vegan. As far as I'm concerned, eat whatever you please, vegetarian, omnivore, pescatarian, vegan or whatever you are.
As for vegans causing trouble here, ask people why they think so and you might find out why some people share this view. Before you have done so, you cannot possibly say it is stupid because you don't know the whole picture of this forum.

For knowing where to post stuff, the subforum explanations on the page http://www.englishforum.ch/forum.php provide info as to what belongs where.

As for only meeting in real life being the way to not have your head bitten off - please.
Sure you don't have to defend yourself or justify your views here, but if you want this, rather than "real life" to be a place for discussion (that's what this forum is and everyone contributes), sometimes your input, defense or justification, whatever it might be, brings a new twist, positive aspect or fuel to a discussion.
Further: You are a newbie here and can't possibly pass judgement on all or most members yet despite the reaction to your past posts. Give it time, we are just like the "real world" - all kinds of people exist on EF, not only one sort which appeals or doesn't appeal to an individual.

By the way: Groaning without explanations for the groan isn't well received here - say what you mean please, rather than just drive-by groaning.

Drama queen yes or no - maybe one would call becoming overly defensive being a drama queen, maybe not.
People like to know what they're dealing with, therefore consciously or unconsciously one places people in "boxes". Some like to call certain groups of people something specific, others are perfectly fine with not sorting people into boxes and classifying them. But whatever people do (label or not), you can't change the way they act, even if you would not label yourself. You can only change the way being labelled (or not) influences you. IMO you are overreacting here.

I hope you stay here and take your time to find out how people are on EF - without passing judgement too quickly and concentrating on a small group of members.

All of a sudden not feeling so guilty for being a grumpy so and so and not bothering to welcome anyone... I mean, let 'em sweat as they type the intro (how personal do I get, how detailed, how coy?) and then think we ignore them (oh, did I get too personal? did someone recognise me and reported me ? what if they will just KNOW that all I want to post is fluff.....)

Shame it wasn't "Hey Ma, we have new bunnies under the sofa, let me introduce them to Speedy and Furball! Hey Auntie Mabel, have I introduced you to Speedy and Furball yet?" [kid drags Auntie Mabel into his room to show him a bigger ball of fluff under his bed which he has aptly named Furball, and also Speedy the bunny who is munching his dinner in his hutch out on the balcony.]

Re: My welcome messages to new members are NOT fluff

Just a quick note on the way things might more normally have gone.

1. Post(s) reported by member(s) - lots of posts from a new member not really saying anything often means they're only here to flog something. We probably get 10-20 such reports every day.
2. Mod takes a look, maybe once or twice per day sees a lot that are typical of this sort of thing, and deletes them with a short explanation.
3. Occasionally, a genuine new member PMs the mod with a question about why they were deleted, explaining that they're not spammers at all, and were just trying to be helpful, friendly or both.
4. Posts are reinstated with an apology and an explanation as to why we take such action.
5. New member goes away happy, with a little more understanding of the way things are, all posts and reputation intact.
6. Nobody else is involved in or even aware of the process; the original post reporter assumes we've looked into it and dealt with it appropriately.

It's a thankless task, I tells ya
