Swisscom forcing products on us?

Got a letter from Swisscom (in French) informing me that their technology is changing, that the Swisscom box will need to be changed, and therefore our current Casa Trio package too.
We either keep a similar product but with 30 hours of recording hours instead of current 300 (where is the "better" value here, I wonder) or upgrade to a more expensive one, full of gimmicks we absolutely don't need. If we don't tell them specifically which one we'd like by 30th August, we'll be automatically switched to the most expensive one.

Either way, I was told by the nice lady on the phone when I called them, phone sockets will become redundant and we'll need to get phones or adaptors that fit to a normal electrical socket. No, we'll have to install new Swisscom box ourselves and yes, we might loose our existing recordings and channels order will be random again.

So we pay more, don't get the options we need most and have to get new phones? Has anyone received a similar letter?

You could just give notice & cancel the contract.

Very tempting, but they did not give us much notice and I don't know what the alternatives are. When your phones, tv and internet rely on this one company, I feel a bit stuck.

Re: Swisscom forcing products on us?

We just did this very upgrade. The new tv box kept the scheduled recordings planned. Forced to watch the programmes recorded for later, true, but no bad thing to have a clear out every so often.
The wireless router kept the same details (no trying to remember how to connect the wireless printer - happened by magic!) which was a "phew" moment.
So relatively painless apart from the extra cost and it is the first increase for five years for us.
Oddly the new router is bigger, the new tv box smaller. An strange thing that in the era of miniaturisation!

How about your phones? Did you have to change them or were they already connected to a router?

Sunrise did that a while back.
One benefit they failed to mention was that our existing cordless phones could connect direct to the new router over wireless so no longer need to be connected to a phone socket; now we can have our cordless phones anywhere in our flat where we have an electrical socket

Let's wish Cablecom doesn't get the same idea with the Mediaboxes and the Horizons. Those prices are just getting outrageous and that would get me up the wall!

Re: Swisscom forcing products on us?

Our solution:

Cell phone for call in Switzerland, VOIP for international, Netflix USA for TV and Internet line to download series and movies.

Re: Swisscom forcing products on us?

Call them, tell them you would like to cancel as you are not willing to pay for a new box when your old one is working.

They will move you onto the new package and provide a new box free of charge.
