Last chance to find your lost luggage with Swiss

Swiss will be selling the forgotten/lost luggage where they can't track the owner https://www.facebook.com/flyswiss.ch...19742508316437

Re: Last chance to find your lost luggage with Swiss

Because when someone lose a baggage. He just not lose some of the belongings sometimes much more than that which can't be valued for e.g a memory card containing all the pictures of the trip. Then someone has to spend countless hours to file a claim and wait for the compensation. Read this thread to realize how difficult it to chase these airlines. I think airline industry need to come up with a solution. They could make a database containing pictures of the found stuff and make it available to the people who lost their luggage or invest into some chip based solution which makes baggage identifiable to the rightful owner or something else.

I think that's a great idea - we put chips into dogs so their owners can be traced if they are lost - so why not our suitcases too? If there was some universal standard, so chips could be scanned at the airport wherever they end up, it would make travellers' lives so much easier.

How do we set about making this happen?

Re: Last chance to find your lost luggage with Swiss

Always have been wondering how much effort they put into trying to get luggage back to the owners?
We "lost" one of our suitcases on the way to our holidays. It "only" took me several hours on the phone, several posts on Facebook (that or Twitter seems to be the only way to get them to react) and although the case was clearly tagged with both the airline baggage identifier plus my frequent flyer tags etc etc, it took them 5 days to locate.......
And it was **##** annoying as you only get 50% percent on the clothing, that you wouldn´t have needed if the suitcase had arrived on time....

No, but given the airline is at fault for losing the luggage they should at least open it and try to find a number.

From previous experience, they sometimes do absolutely nothing - not even scanning the tag or opening the case. When visiting family lost their case (luggage for an entire flight was misloaded!), I found it at the airport on a trolley of "lost stuff"; despite giving Swiss the luggage tag code, they had clearly just dumped the entire contents of the flight in the corner from where I imagine the next stop was their warehouse and the charity auction.

They were also totally unapologetic about asking me to dig through the pile of stuff - seemed to think I was lucky to even be allowed

No doubt this is a good Idea and will make things way easier. But have you also thought about you being able to be tracked then? If you have a gps-chip in your suitcase, people will always be able to see where you are. Do you really want to publish every private detail in your life?

I only use my suitcase once a year. How are "They" going to track me the rest of the time?

And why would "They" bother?

Well if it were to happen it would most likely (and cheaply) be an RFID tag, so not quite as bad as you suggest, but still many would find it overly intrusive.

As for effort, well it depends on the airline, the ground operator and all sorts of other factors. I worked on a baggage-tracking system (called Pandora) at BA some 20-odd years ago, where the objective was that any 'found' bag, i.e. one that hadn't made the correct flight, would be entered in the system and the owner informed, ideally on landing, when it would arrive and how to collect, etc.

IIRC ther target ratio was something in the order of 90%, although whether this was ever achieved I have no idea.

Swiss don't have baggage handling employees.. its swiss port. The lost luggage is also swiss port. . I know there are a few similar letters but let's be fair.

It's Swiss' responsibility still. I as customer couldn't care less who does the actual action, my contract is with the airline.
