Hi.
I took a taxi from winterthur to Zurich hb today 26th August 2015 at 9:30 am from the ibis budget. The driver who drove us was Martin.. When me and my husband got off at Zurich hb I got off leaving my handbag behind to get a trolley..when I returned with the trolley my husband had finished paying and the driver drove off..with my handbag in the taxi..we got in touch with him within five mins..he denied having found a bag in the taxi..its not fair..the bag was left in the taxi...
I was a solution to my problem.i can list down exactly what was there in my handbag....

It's called capa taxi service

Did you contact the taxi office (call centre) as opposed to the driver?

Re: Zurich ..... A bad experience....

Sadly a lost handbag is unlikely to be high on the list of Zurich police priorities - and proving the cab driver took it - and there is no certainty that he did - is going to be impossible, unless the cab driver is someone with previous form.

Do the following:

(i) Cancel all the credit cards, bank cards etc that were in your handbag
(ii) Get a German speaking friend to contact the cab company and ask if your bag was found - if not write off to experience
(iii) Claim what you can on your travel insurance
...and in future....

Never let your valuables out of your sight. Zurich Airport is rife with handbag thieves. The classic one is the passenger who leaves their bag on top of the luggage trolley while they are busy at the check-in desk. The orher one is the gangs who hover around the ticket machines in the SBB station hall - and accomplice watches you tap in your PIN from afar - a pickpocket gets your wallet with the card in it while you are not looking.

Zurich might be low on crime but it is not crime free.

Cheers,
Nick

My advice is to get your train ticket while waiting for your luggage to arrive. There is a ticket machine in that area of the airport as well and pickpockets have no access to it (and you usually don't have to queue either!).

E.g. someone walking by saw the bag in the taxi. His accomplice distracted the driver while he nabbed it.

Admittedly I am usually jet-lagged and foggy-brained on arrival at Zürich, but I couldn't find the slot to punch a multi-ride ticket on the ticket machine at the luggage hall. Could it be that these machines don't handle multi-ride tickets, or is it just my addled sleep-deprived brain?

(Trying to avoid the queues - and pick pockets - around the machines downstairs at the tracks, even if just to punch the ticket.)

The only issue would be if you buy a ticket and the luggage is very slow, using up your 2 hour ticket time.

Or you collect your luggage and then buy your ticket in the baggage collection hall?????

Besides that the original post got me thinking:
Who stays in an IBIS budget hotel? And then takes a taxi to the HB in Zurich?

The IBIS is located 2 streets from Wintherthur station and the journey to Zurich HB would be quicker than by taxi. If luggage was an issue a tax to Winterthur station would have done. And the whole thing would have been cheaper.

I honestly don't know as I always buy a single ride ticket, but it wouldn't surprise me...

At Basel airport for instance you can only buy 2-zone (more expensive) bus tickets, which is very inconvenient for me as I live two stops away from the airport (the first stop being "Flughafen Cargo").

Ditto, I always use Uber now ubless I really can't help it, and the drivers are 10x more friendly and trustworthy than the local taxi ranks... not to mention around 1.5-2x cheaper.

The OP said they took a taxi from Winterthur to Zürich HB.

Do they have a baggage colection hall in Winterthur?

What i don't get though is why anybody would take a taxi between those places seeing the trains is faster, very frequent and must be much cheaper too.

Re: Zurich ..... A bad experience....

FFS Amogles - keep up.

I was responding to "NewtoSwitz" who was responding to "Nenadbasel" both of whom had made the jump to Airport instead of station.

My post went through the illogical use of the taxi which is why I call BS on the whole thing.

Re: Zurich ..... A bad experience....

In defense of those using taxis...

If one is a first time tourist or just-landed newbie in Switzerland with no local language skills one might not understand how public transportation works, and likely not understand distances from A to B.

On my first visit to Switzerland - back in the mists of time - I did what one normally does when in a strange city: ask the hotel concierge the best way to get around. And the recommendation was to take a taxi. So I did. I only later learned how foolish that was.

We veterans often forget that Switzerland isn't always intuitively understandable for those who have never been here, or for those who do not have local language skills.

But back to the OP's problem...

This is 2015 - and the OP was "savvy" enough to find EF to post about it - probably from a mobile device. That would lead me to assume they have access to a "map" application and therefore almost certainly been aware of their location in Winterthur. The hotel (IBIS Budget) also suggests that the OP booked elements of the trip online - and considering the type of hotel (and likely budget of those that stay there) if the staff were asked "what is the best way to get to Zurich HB?" the answer would be "Train" - this is, after all, Switzerland.
