Get used to reversing into your space o park your car. Then you can ask him to move the trailer if it's there as it's in your way & shouldn't be parked there. It will also be easier to get out of your space in the morning when your eyes are glued shut with sleepy dust.
If there's some sort of wall, it may not be allowed to reverse in. They're a tidy lot, the Swiss

So you are basiclly saying, lets diddle the insurance company again !
Wonder why premiums are so high ?

What insurance claim is their ? The guy backed in to a perfectly VISABLE and STATIONARY object and he wonders who's fault it is ?

Does the bloody trailer have a MENSA rating ?
Not at all- I never ever advocated that. If the guy has public liability insurance/3rd party, it may be covered. i would phone the insurance, ask if if it is covered, or not, and abide by that. I have never ever fiddled an insurance claim, ever.

Re: Reversed into dangerously parked neighbour's trailer!

Well, deep in my soul and mind, I have already accepted the fact that I will need to pay up for the accident of this morning. I just hate things like that come hit you out of nowhere. I am not going to sue mountains and rivers for being there ... They have parked there first.

All I need is to find either an affodrable garage in Germany or call my insurance's Help Point again (CHF1000 excess). Third time this year but with unlimited claims.

Any suggestions for a good cross-border garage that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

Indeedy -but if the guy has got some sort of public liability insurance- he might just say he will try and cover it- you could always offer to pay for the franchise. That's the way we sort things out around here- without blame, anger or trouble. It's great.

Your having a laugh, it's 100% the OP's fault.

Re: Reversed into dangerously parked neighbour's trailer!

The way I solve these kind of issues is to reverse into parking spots, so I'm facing the right way (and can mostly avoid hairy maneuvers) when heading out.

So is the trailer - meaning, this sort of accident was not a question of "if" but "when".

Nope ... It only shows that some people have been long enough here and they claim right to Swiss joke saying "Achtung Gefahrt". That's the first step you need to become the second generation Swiss in northern cantons IMHO, each time I drive in ZH, I find people driving there like on pills. Serious roadhogs!

indeed, and our had its 'expertise/MFK on Monday too.

Was thinking more on the lines that the neighbour had left the trailor in an area where he shouldn't have on an area clearly not meant for leaving parked vehicles. I would have checked with my insurance that insures both our house, our cars and our trailor, and public liability- and simply asked if covered yeah or neh.

You can say that again. You do not go ahead and leave your junk everywhere that it may inconvenience your neighbours. With all the rules and set of self imposed do's and dont's, I find such mistakes ridiculous

Re: Reversed into dangerously parked neighbour's trailer!

Similar thing happened to me. Car parked illegally behind me leaving very little space to reverse out and I reversed into him like an idiot. No parking sensors.

Entirely my fault. Left a note with my number and he was very thankful that I did. Not sure what repair he got done that cost 4kchf but didn't cost me a cent.

I got my damage repaired with a smart repair.

Insurance said if he's parked illegally he can get a ticket...doesn't mean you can just go crashing into all illegally parked cars!

Odile, the trailer was VISIBLE and STATIONARY it is irrelevant it it was in the wrong place or not, it is 100% Jacek's fault. Driving without due care and attention.

I think you will find the rules in Odile's village are different, they are based on trying to blame on someone else rather than take full responsibility for your own mistakes. In the UK it's known as insurance fraud.......

Well, I do not expect anybody to pay out of their insurance in this case committing the fraud. Just a neighbourly understanding and sorry would have come a long way. He has got his own bay and area so keep it all there. As I say, you think twice where you leave your own shite too. Period.

You sound like the US vessel captain that was requesting the harbour light to change its course or face the consequences!

Actually the rules of the road are very clear... Obstacles parked in a whatever way are just that, obstacles. YOU have to be careful of them!

Last year I parked my car (like a twat, but Geneva being Geneva, there was no other way to leave it) and the car being huge for the street some Jacek scratched in backing up

Anyway, the guy took photos of my parking and declared everything to his insurance. Guess what happened? Insurance found him 100% at fault Even though I was parked very bad. My car was stationary, I can even leave it in the middle of the road, its the guy driving that needs to open his eyes and look around.

Anyway the guy even denounced me to the Police who told him to FO. I got something like 4k out of his insurance for scratching my car.

You even have parking sensors, you heard that annoying noise and still continued to back up?! AG - achtung Gefährt!
