Swiss and Birthdays

I get it. Things are different here. Instead of people treating you on your birthday, you are required to pay for everyone else. Sure. Fine. Whatever.

Backstory: For my OH's birthday I am putting together a book with photos and messages | memories from friends. 3 months ago, I sent out a message to our friends asking if they would like to participate. Nothing big required. Just a sentence or two would be enough.

Here's how it turned out: The majority ignored me and went out of their way to not run into me. Now, these are people we have both known for at least 10-15 years. The ones that didn't outright ignore me said that they don't really know him and wouldn't know what to say. Again, these are people we have both known for 10-15 years.

Even my stepfather, his possible future FIL, said "I can just send him an SMS". WTF?!

Oh dear... I feel for you. Could you perhaps ask again, in a slightly more direct way, explaining that you're surprised etc simply because they have all known him so long...you should at least be able to wring something out of future FIL... good luck.

And I hope you have a lovely celebration with your OH.

Thanks. I know I should know better. I reminded everyone - most ignored it.

Funny thing is, tomorrow we're going to dinner together at one of the individuals homes who didn't want to add something because "he doesn't know him that well"?!
