Inefficiency

My daughter-in-law is changing her bank account names for her new improved married name.

Raffeisen - two minutes
UBS - download form, fill it in, send it off
BKB - oh, that takes some time, you'll need to make an appointment...

But perhaps it's because the BKB PFY hasn't learned that process yet.

Re: Inefficiency

I recall it being pretty easy for my wife, but she only had a couple accounts back then, both at UBS.

Now she has six accounts at four different banks!

Re: Inefficiency

Last time I went into the Raffeisen to open a new account I was told I had to make an appointment to see someone to do that as they no longer have cashier desks. "When do you want to do that" she asked me? "Now" I said "as that is why I am here". "Not possible" she says. So I left swearing my head off, went to the Post Office & opened one there where they still have human beings that you don't have to make an appointment with. One lost customer to the Raffeisen.

I feel her pain, and pray she never has to do it the other way around. Took RBS in the UK 6yrs to agree to me reverting back to my maiden name without having to pay for it to be changed by deed poll.

Obviously not, otherwise she wouldn't have changed it.

It's improved because
1. It's the same as mine, and that's got to be a good thing
2. There are over 1500 households with her maiden name in CH. Only 2 with the married name.
3. It's no longer German/Swiss - it's English. Again - that's got to be a good thing.
4. She's joined a family that has such illustrious forebears as SOE agents, French aristocrats, Baptist preachers, chain makers and members of Napolean's bodyguard. Not all at once, obviously.

When someone owns property in multiple countries, it's really not unusual. Of course holding a large amount of cash in 1 Bank would be foolish.

You have complained multiple times that Post Finance website is down & you can't access your money, have an account at a second Bank & problem solved.

Lest think about this, & most banks charge if you withdraw more than 50k in a year from a savings account:-

Salary Account
Savings Account
Joint account with partner (not recommended)
Pillar 3 Account
Rent Deposit account

Re: Inefficiency

Do you think that in 2016 there is any reason for a woman to take her husband's name?
In Greece we stopped doing that in the '80s, when the "socialist" government introduced the new family law and seriously, it makes so much more sense. My mom was one of the first married women to not adopt my dad's surname because they got married shortly after this new law, and at the beginning people found it weird but now the other way around seems weird.

Funny fact: the Greek family law from the '80s did not make any specific mention on the married couple's gender, so in the late 2000's some gay couples tried to get married using this law from the '80s, unfortunately eventually failing. Otherwise Greece would have legally introduced same-sex marriage since the '80s!

Re: Inefficiency

Because I liked doing it? My maiden name is really common in my home country, his is quite uncommon. And due to discrepancies in his and my home country´s law, I have now 3 surnames

A friend of mine took her name when they got married, why not?

International travel with your child. Sadly it's a damn sight easier doing so if the parent with the child has the same surname on their passport as the child. Prior to changing my name I was never stopped but I was scrutinised more closely. I used to carry a copy of my daughter's birth certificate around with me. I have friends who were told in no uncertain terms that they needed a letter from the father if they wanted to travel. In the 21st Century! It makes me angry and sad in equal measure.

Interesting, I would expect the kid's passport to state the father's full name and the mother's full name.
Actually not even father's and mother's, but parent1's full name and parent2's full name.

Re: Inefficiency

UK ones don't. It would be better if they did. I think French ones at least have the facility for a note to that effect to be added.

Travelling was the sole reason I changed my name. Personally, professionally and from a paperwork point of view it was a pain in the arse. It still is as I randomly discover things still in my maiden name.

Re: Inefficiency

It seems that there's no inefficiency. It's just that BKB are the only bank that has the moral high ground to lecture her about changing her name and to get her to change her mind. Free will is discouraged in these parts.
