RANT: Carstar AG, Freienbach

I bought this car in March last year. Carstar AG is still listing it on Autoscout today (why is that?):
http://www.autoscout24.ch/de/d/ferra...253d5%26r%3d61

I paid 75K for it, all cash. The sales guy (Jerry) was very nice and told me this was the best car in the world. The garage was also pretty cool, supercars all over the place and links to Kimi Räikkönen. Jerry promised a SuisseFox II guarantee (e.g. bumper to bumper) and specified this guarantee on the contract. So I buy it. When the guarantee comes through, then it is the absolute minimum guarantee, the worst possible guarantee, it basically covers the left wheel nut in the case of fire. Useless.

I immediately pointed this out to Carstar, and they called SuisseFox and made a big deal about it, but nothing happened. I believe Carstar genuinely thought an extensive bumper to bumper guarantee was possible for a 12 year old Ferrari (obviously it was not).

Anyway, not a big deal, until the car starts breaking down. Wheel bearing goes clinkedy clunk, engine valve loose, alarm system goes berserk in the middle of the night, still a great car mind you.

I have everything done by Foitek Urdorf, who are the Ferrari guys here in CH, and take the invoice to Carstar. I want my modest CHF 2K back.

I get the run around for months and finally post here on Englishforum asking for advise. Someone PM´s me the name of a lawyer who I talk to. The advice I got was it is not worth it, suck it up. I like this lawyer and hire her to bother Carstar with legal action.

Nothing came out of it, and I ended up with a modest 1K legal fee.

Was it worth it? Yes.

Wow, there are not many things worse than a really bad garage/dealer.

My most sincere sympathies, one does hope that karma bites these assholes...

Please clarify something though:
Only 2k for a engine-head-out service at a Ferrari dealer? Or are the 2k something else?

Also how much did they ask for the warranty?

Only Carmax in the US would be crazy enough to do bumper-to-bumper with such cars.

I read it as 2k for the warranty that is worth 2rp.

The dealer is just up the road from me, so I quite often have a look as I'm passing by. They have some interesting stock, including a Koenigsseg (on the website, but not on display), but something has never felt quite right about them. I'd far rather buy from Foitek.

I'd read it as 2k to prepare the invoice of work for the OP. IIRC 2k of Ferrari servicing basically includes counting the number of wheels and doors, refilling the washer fluid and remarking that the car needs full paint sealing and engine rebuild.

Which is a washer fluid refill more than at Lamborghini

That sounds like an awful experience.

One of my nightmares if I would ever be able to afford such car.

So what was Carstar AG's final say? they just refused everything?
Did you pay extra to have the ensurance? if you did, maybe you could at least have that money back.

Re: RANT: Carstar AG, Freienbach

The guarantee (SuisseFox II) was included in the purchase price, and stated on the contract.

The 2K is only for the wheel bearing issue, the other stuff that failed would not have been covered under SuisseFox II (that's an additional CHF 4K I did not ask Carstar Ag for)

2K is not a great deal of money in the greater scheme of Ferrari things, as the yearly service is 1.5K - it is more the principle of the thing.

And yes, Carstar just refused to pay. I could take them to court, but the legal fees would be in the thousands, even tens of thousands.

Oddly they still have my car listed on autoscout, 11 months after I bought the thing (see link in first post) so I doubt they actually have that Koenigsegg for sale.

I feel bad for you..... about March last year I bought a car from a really great seller, and the car runs like a dream. I bet now you wish you'd kept it!

Maybe they keep the cars they already sold to maintain the illusion that they have a lot of different cars to offer. But its kinda not cool I mean its your car - Ask them to take them down.

Haha, I do miss the old MX5 The Ferrari is a good car though, I expected it to have a few minor problems as it had not been driven in a while - exactly why I wanted the guarantee. I just wish the seller had been more professional and honored what promised (and put in writing on the contract).

Re: RANT: Carstar AG, Freienbach

My four year old thinks Carstar is really cool. We were passing at the weekend and when we do, we always have to stop and have a look and then he shows off with his supercar knowledge.

I've never seen the Koenigsegg there either.

I thought it was better when it was a Renault dealer.

Re: RANT: Carstar AG, Freienbach

Again I'm sympathising here, but when a seller has a Martini-livery 918 and an Edition CC-X, and also a 150k Km 15-yo C class wagon, something seems off.

"Let's put in the same lot a couple multi-million cars, and a 6k beater"

"Let's keep sold cars on the invertory, so that it seems bigger and more diverse"

The garage seems to have little clue about marketing, why would they be better in other business aspects? Thanks for the heads up in any case

The shop is in Freienbach and in this part of Switzerland is this completely normal - the local Mitsubishi dealer has a line of Ferraris, Astons and R8s in front of the used pick-up trucks...

Agreed - in fact a garage around here would probably look weirder if it didn't have a lamborghini or similar outside on the forecourt.

The garage next to the Lidl in Lachen, the one in Hirzel, the one at the top of Richterswil all have some amazing cars amongst the more normal secondhand fayre.

You mean the fiat dealer who for some reason clearly prefers used Porsche over Ferrari?

No - DM Auto AG, just the other side of the A3.

You mean DTM? Nice guys btw, one of the few shops where the people seem to genuinely like what they are doing... And I cannot help getting the impression some of the cars they got indoors were also sourced with "test drives" for themselves in mind.
