Aggressive foreign drivers?

This morning I was tailgated, flashed and eventually given the bird by some idiot in a car with Munich plates. I was overtaking almost a km of slower moving traffic on the A3, doing a healthy 130 km/h, but somehow it wasn't enough for this Jerk who literally wanted me to slam into the side of a lorry just so he could be on his merry way.

That kind of aggressive driving wouldn't be acceptable from anyone, but the fact that he was from outta town kind of got my goat. I would never drive like that in a neighbouring country (or anywhere else for that matter), I just feel conscious that I'm a visitor on their roads and therefore have to be on best behaviour.

Being a dork is usually an individual achievement. Yes, it is annoying. Did you note his numberplate and report it?

Re: Aggressive foreign drivers?

I had one recently with foreign plates up, an ML 63 who was toodling along at around 100km in the outside lane recently.

I waited a bit and then flashed my lights, he accelerated to 120, as i did but wouldn't move over, despite the highway being quiet, so i flashed him again.

He accelerated to show the power of his uber jeep, and was around 180kmh when he got flashed by a radar.

I was at 120, knowing where the radar was, but did i laugh when i passed him, .............just after the radar (and in time to slow up for the next one)

Funny or what !!!!

Not sure there is any point without video evidence.

If the police record the same plate, from multiple folk, I believe they'll look into it. It's standard for cars who like to take swipes at cyclists for instance.

Ask a copper. They will sometimes have a talk with someone if there are enough complaints. Particularly if they happen to be looking for someone reported to have been driving dangerously or causing an accident nearby at roughly the same time period and the only information that they have is "Blue car, foreign plates".

then forgive him. A Passat is a sad car that you only drive if given to you as a company car. This might be his only masculine moment today.

Why? Why does being someone with a foreign driving license plate make it worse?

While I was driving through the gore nightmare that is the highway between Switzerland and Spain (aka as France) I did not discriminate between the Belgium nutcases and the French nutcases: they were equally insane.

Also, the worse drivers I encounter on my regular path - Kanton Zürich and Kanton St. Gallen - have Swiss plates. The choice of car (Audi) and the flags glued on the windows might tell something more interesting, but they still have Swiss plates.

Exactly. The perp was probably an embittered toner distribution manager...

Given that I have to traverse the whole of Aargau each day and this gentleman stood out, should tell you how bad his driving truly was.

Re: Aggressive foreign drivers?

When I was still learning to drive, one of the things that my dad used to say was "When you notice that there is an idiot behind you, let them get past you as soon as possible: it is safer to out think and outbrake them from behind than let them distract you from behind."

There are regions where I prefer to use public transit.

I wonder what would happen if you took a few pictures or filmed for a bit, perhaps preferably with the small white posts on the left that show km-marks to demonstrate he remained left for a loooong stretch, and reported him for not following the precept to drive in the right lane/on the right (Rechtsfahrgebot, article 34).

The issue with that is unfortunately that you may get yourself into trouble if you, as the driver, do the filming yourself as you incriminate yourself and simultaneously deliver the proof thereof.

A complainer is a potential witness. With two complainers reporting on the same platenumber you probably have a case.

Wouldn't that be feasible with those new fangled dashcam thingies??

Yeah just pull in when you can, let them pass, and get on with it. Maybe you were doing an indicated 130, which was really 125 and you didn't pull in when you saw another car 1km up the road only doing 125kmh :-) It took me a while to get used to overtaking cars at 1kmh faster in Switzerland.
